Fort Worth boutique hotel signs on award-winning team for new eatery
Fort Worth's boutique Hotel Revel has a new restaurant in the works, and it's a familiar name.
The city's most unique boutique hotel, which was opened at 1165 8th Ave. by sustainable developer Trey Neville, has signed on acclaimed Fort Worth food & beverage team Victor and Misty Villarreal, who will open their award-winning Latin concept La Onda in the hotel this fall.
La Onda will replace Sugarman's, their in-house cocktail lounge which opened in 2021 and is closing on August 19. La Onda's plan is to be open for lunch and dinner, with a limited menu including raw bar items and ceviche.
Victor and Misty first opened La Onda as a Latin-inspired cocktail, seafood, and caviar bar with a unique take on Mexican and South American culture and cuisine in 2021. It was their first joint venture following the closure of Victor's pizza concept Abe's Kitchen.
They won the award for Best New Restaurant in CultureMap's 2021 annual Tastemaker Awards, as well as best cocktail program from Texas Monthly. They were the only restaurant from Dallas-Fort Worth to make Bon Appetit's list of America’s 50 Best New Restaurants for 2022.
Misty, who is also serving as general manager of Hotel Revel, says that they're retrofitting what was previously just a bar with some kitchen basics.
"It'll be a similar menu to what La Onda had, but it won't be a full-on restaurant - more of a bar that has food," Misty says. "We’re building a small kitchen, with an oyster bar and a raw bar."
There remains a space on other side of the hotel with a 5,500-square-foot unbuilt space on the first floor that was originally going to be a restaurant from the Trident Group, which Misty says may become a restaurant down the road.
She says Neville is also adding eight more hotel rooms to the currently existing 15, with no two rooms the same.
