Playa Bowls rolls into Southlake with healthy bowls and smoothies

Playa Bowls
A bowls restaurant chain from New Jersey is coming to North Texas: Called Playa Bowls, it's opening its first location in the DFW area in Southlake, at 1151 E. Southlake Blvd. #370, replacing another bowls place called Rush Bowls.
According to a release, it opens May 17.
Playa Bowls was founded in 2014 by a pair of surfers who'd loved the healthy acai and pitaya bowls they had on surfing trips to Hawaii. It's affectionately dubbed "Pineappleland," and features a pineapple in its logo.
The chain has enjoyed a big expansion, with more than 300 Playa Bowl locations in 27 states including Arizona, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Texas, including seven locations in Austin and San Antonio.
The chain specializes in healthy bowls, with more than 40 options, with seven purees — acai, pitaya, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal, and mango — which you can top with healthy items like fresh and dried fruit, nuts, granola, and nut butter.
Highlights include:
- Nutella bowl: acai with blueberry flax granola, strawberry, banana, coconut flakes, and Nutella
- Green power bowl: green blend (kale, banana) with blueberry flax granola, banana, and almond butter
- Power bowl: Banana, peanut butter, chocolate protein
They also are big on smoothies, with a dozen options, all of which use plant-based milks like oat milk or coconut milk; plus healthy blended juices such as the Green Room with kale, apple, cucumber, mint, and lemon.
There are cold-press juices as well as two cold brews, made with New Orleans-style chicory coffee.
Bringing Playa Bowls to Southlake is franchisee Anupam Reddy, a fitness and health enthusiast with experience in business consulting. He and his wife, Monal, a pediatric pulmonologist at Cook Children’s who grew up in New Jersey, have been longtime fans of Playa Bowls.
"The shop quickly became a favorite spot for my wife and I, and now, as we plant roots in Texas, we’re thrilled to share that experience with our new community," Anupam says. "Plus, our one-year-old daughter is a true acai fan, so I know she’s just as excited as I am to bring Pineappleland to the area.”
They are also opening locations in Prosper and Dallas but first Southlake, where they'll host a party on opening day with free bowls and T-shirts for the first 50 guests.
