A lively sports bar and restaurant known for DJs, karaoke, dancing and plenty of TVs is coming to Bedford. Scooters Sports Bar & Grill has signed a 10-year lease for an 8,168-square-foot space at Harwood Shopping Center, at 3508 Harwood Rd., according to a release.
The restaurant is aiming to open by mid-2027.
The Bedford location will be the third in the area for Scooters, which also has outposts in Arlington and Garland.
The bar and grill combines sports-bar staples with a party atmosphere, including DJs, karaoke, dancing, widescreen TVs, dart boards and pool tables. There are also multiple bars, dining areas, and patio seating.
The menu includes several burgers, including a Spicy Jalapeno Burger with Fries; along with chicken entrees and sandwiches, country fried steak, and a catfish or Buffalo shrimp basket. There's also a long list of shareable starters, including fried pickles or mushrooms, chili cheese dogs, bacon cheddar tots, Irish nachos, quesadillas, and boneless or bone-in wings in a dozen varieties.
“Scooters Bar & Grill is a cool concept. It's a big win for the next phase of Rock Island's repositioning of the center,” says Chris Kennedy, vice president of Bradford Commercial Real Estate Services, which handles leasing for the center.
Scooters operator Binkley Restaurant Group plans to spend about $1 million upgrading the Bedford space.
Shopping center reno
It's part of a much larger project in a well-worn corner of the mid-cities. The 127,121-square-foot Harwood Shopping Center is getting a major makeover under its owner, Rock Island Auction Co., which bought the 11-acre property in 2022.
The Illinois-based company, which operates a firearms auction business, converted an 85,899-square-foot former Walmart into its Texas headquarters and auction facility. That leaves about 41,222 square feet of retail space, which is now being filled with new tenants and an updated look.
Bradford Construction Management is overseeing the renovation, which includes updating the center's exterior, preparing five vacant storefronts totaling 13,618 square feet for new tenants, and upgrading the 1,544-space parking lot.
The shopping center dates to the late 1980s and sits along Harwood Road with direct access and visibility from Texas 121 in the buzzy, booming mid-cities area.
“The landlord is planning a full repositioning to attract quality tenants for a growing area with new rooftops in the mid-mcties,” Kennedy says.
