San Antonio-based Tex-Mex chain Taco Cabana, which has become almost as famous for its margaritas as its tacos, has a new kitschy new flavor in the works, made in partnership with Texas soft drink Big Red.
Called The Big Red margarita, it blends the flavors of a traditional margarita with Big Red Soda, known for its bubblegum-like flavor profile with notes of lemon, orange, and vanilla.
According to a release, Taco Cabana partnered with Plano-based Keurig Dr Pepper again to develop the new flavor, after previously partnering on the unique Dr Pepper margarita in 2020.
The flavor is actually their corporate version of a popular hack in which dedicated drinkers up-end a bottle of Big Red into their margarita, Coronita-style.
The margarita will hit stores on February 22, also known as National Margarita Day. It'll be offered as a single serving, in a margarita yard, and by the gallon.

It's part of a rollout of limited-time-only new menu items coming to restaurants mid-February through the end of March.
Those include brand new fish tacos, consisting of a beer-battered Icelandic cod with pepper-limón sauce, finished with lettuce and pico de gallo. The fish tacos will land on the menu just in time for those who celebrate Lent, the release says.
There's also a chilaquiles bowl: Scrambled eggs laid over tortilla strips, with sour cream, cotija cheese, and choice of ranchero or green sauce.
In a flavorful return to the Taco Cabana menu, the classic salsa verde is coming back to the in-store salsa bar and can be added to takeout orders.
"We have a lot of great things happening at Taco Cabana this month," said Taco Cabana President and COO Ulyses Camacho in a press release. "We look forward to having our guests try them in our restaurants or wherever they choose to get them delivered."
Taco Cabana was founded in 1978 and operates 143 company-owned restaurants in Texas. The brand specializes in Tex-Mex-inspired food including enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, flautas, burritos, tacos, freshly-made flour tortillas and a selection of made-from-scratch salsas and sauces.
