Stars align and sing arias at Fort Worth Opera fundraising dinner
What: Fort Worth Opera Dinner with the Stars
Where: The Fort Worth Club
The 411: Opera fans spanning the generations came together for an elegant evening of fine food, fundraising, and musical presentations. Fort Worth Opera's new general director Tuomas Hiltunen and artistic director Joe Illick, along with board chairman Mike Martinez, welcomed guests for a multicourse dinner, cocktails, and performances, including a sneak peek of the 2018 Opera Festival.
Fort Worth Opera-TCU Hattie Mae Lesley Apprentice Artists Bronwyn White and Bridget Cappel performed the "Prince Charming/Lucette duet" from Massenet’s opera Cendrillon (Cinderella), right before she loses her glass slipper. They were joined by fellow apprentices Joshua Friend and Sam Parkinson to perform selections from Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes.
Tenor Jonathan Blalock sang arias and a duet from Fort Worth Opera's upcoming, 1950s Hollywood-inspired production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale. The event came days before the opera's announcement of an all-star cast for the spring festival production, to be staged at Bass Hall on April 28, May 4, and May 6, 2018. (That cast includes Turkish bass-baritone Burak Bilgili, Grammy Award-winning soprano Audrey Luna, baritone Andrew Wilkowske, and Korean tenor Ji-Min Park.)
All proceeds from Dinner with the Stars benefited Fort Worth Opera's Children's Opera Theatre program, as well as the 2018 festival.
