Beignets and Saints march in at New Orleans market-eatery in Arlington
For a one-stop shop of all things New Orleans, look no further than Texas Orleans, subtitled "Cajun Kitchen and Market," where you can find crawfish and po'boys to go right next to theme shirts from the New Orleans Saints.
Located at 1700 E. Pioneer Pkwy. in Arlington, the shop comes from Krishawn Johnson, a native of New Orleans who says she wanted to give NOLA transplants and lovers of Cajun food a piece of her hometown, as well as provide a platform for local black products to be introduced and sold to the public.
The store, which opened in July, sells a variety of Louisiana favorites such as Patton's Hot Sausage as well as ready-made hot food including po'boys, fried catfish, and shrimp baskets.
They're creative with lunch specials. One recent offering was Cajun seafood nachos, featuring freshly made chips topped with crabmeat, shrimp, crawfish, sauteed bell peppers and onions, topped with a crab cake chipotle cream and chipotle ranch.
Other specials have included seafood taco salad and a "Cajun surf and turf burrito," with yellow rice.
Their Monday special is a treat: yakamein, also known as New Orleans soup. It's a culinary mishmash that incorporates elements of Japanese and Chinese cooking along some Creole spice, like a Cajun twist on ramen.
They always have seafood stuffed bell peppers every Friday, which you can take home and bake.
They even have beignets, which they make fresh every morning. Right now, they stop making them at 10:30 am, but they've experienced sufficient demand that they're going to start making them available all day.
Their hours are Monday-Saturday 8 am-8 pm, and they open the grocery on Sundays from 12-5 pm.
Where else in town can you get Cajun food made with TLC and buy a set of Saints chrome license plate holders?
