Weekend Event Planner
These are the 13 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
In any other weekend, the number of holiday-themed events starting or taking place in Fort Worth would be the headline. Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. Want more options? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.

The Cliburn presents Camille Thomas and Roman Rabinovich
Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas is conquering the world stage at a staggering pace. Tarrant Regional Water District presents Panther Island Ice
Fort Worth is not usually the kind of place you can enjoy outdoor ice skating, but that will change for the next two months. The city’s only outdoor skating rink brings a winter wonderland of fun and excitement, and with it located at Coyote Drive-In, you can stick around for a movie to make it a complete day of entertainment. Including all holidays, the ice rink will operate seven days a week through January 20.
Magnolia at the Modern: Frankie
Three generations of a European family come together in the fabled town of Sintra, Portugal, for one last vacation before the family matriarch (Isabell Huppert) faces the next, and last, chapter of her life. Over the course of one crisp October day, the fairy tale setting brings about everyone's most romantic impulses, revealing both cracks between them, as well as unexpected depth of feeling. The film, also starring Marisa Tomei and Brendan Gleeson, will play seven times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Casa Mañana presents Jack Frost
Jack is living the perfect life, spending his days making spectacular ice sculptures and hanging with his friends in the Frozen Kingdom. One day tragedy strikes, and Jack, along with his friends, is banished from the kingdom by his evil uncle, who wants to destroy the world with a new ice age. Can a band of snowy misfits help Jack find his destiny and restore order to the kingdom? The production will run at Casa Mañana through December 23.
Hooray for Holidays: Theatre Arlington’s Musical TV Special
Theatre Arlington will imagine what it would be like to have its own holiday TV special. A television network has decided to reboot one of their old blockbuster series, The Callahan Kids TV Show, for its 25th anniversary. The problem is that the kids are all grown up and comically ill-equipped to be on back on the air hosting a holiday special. The production will feature lots of singing, dancing and all-around good fun featuring some of Theatre Arlington’s favorite performers, a children’s choir, and even an adorable dog. It will run through December 15.
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents Mozart and Dvorák
In this concert, Brahms’ intoxicating Academic Festival Overture provides contrast to Dvorák’s dramatic and somber Seventh Symphony and Mozart’s brooding Piano Concerto No. 20. Guest conductor Christian Arming leads the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra with pianist Lise de la Salle in this program of works by three giants of the repertoire. There will be three performances through Sunday at Bass Performance Hall.
Ballet Frontier of Texas presents The Nutcracker
Ballet Frontier will present a favorite holiday tradition, The Nutcracker. The dance company produces a magical professional production of The Nutcracker every year featuring company members, guest artists, and children of all ages. There will be four performances through Sunday at Will Rogers Memorial Center.
Jubilee Theatre presents If Scrooge Was a Brother
It’s Christmas Eve and Eb Scroo is seeking to snuff out the season’s cheer by demanding all debts owed him be satisfied before nightfall. Facing imprisonment, a Christmas without presents and a feast, the residents are desperate. In this urban spin of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the ghosts and characters are icons of Black culture performing gospel, R&B, and even reggae songs. The production will run at Jubilee Theatre through December 22.
George Strait in concert with Asleep at the Wheel
It's been a long time coming to get country superstar George Strait back to Fort Worth. A year after he was the first announced concert for Dickies Arena and 37 years after he last played a concert in the city, Strait will finally return. And he'll make it count, playing two concerts — one Friday and one Saturday, with help from opening act Asleep at the Wheel.

The Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s Japanese Fall Festival is expanding, breaking through the walls of the Japanese Garden and into the surrounding Gardens. National Theatre Live presents Hamlet
Several years ago, Benedict Cumberbatch took on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy in which Hamlet, forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state. This screening of the previous live production in London will be screened at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Sunday, November 24
GM Financial Parade of Lights
The GM Financial Parade of Lights will illuminate the streets of Downtown Fort Worth for the 37th year. This year’s “Sounds of the Season”-themed parade will kick off Fort Worth’s holiday festivities with more than 100 festive floats, each adorned with cheerful decor and over half a million lights. The night will conclude with Santa and Mrs. Claus appearing on the specially designed, LED-lit, grand finale float. For a list of road closures, parking ideas, and more, click here.
