Fort Worth Opera's 81st season lineup will be varied both artistically and geographically. It will include fully staged operas, concerts, and special events presented at venues of all sizes across Dallas-Fort Worth, including one at Bass Hall, of which it is a resident company.
Led by general and artistic director Angela Turner Wilson, the season will pair internationally recognized artists with beloved classics and newer contemporary works, according to a release.
Perhaps most intriguing of all will be a regional premiere of an opera about two late, revered U.S. Supreme Court justices. It will be the first staged production of the season
The season opens with a special event - the company’s Prima Voce Dinner on September 19 at the Ridglea Country Club, which will feature live performances by the company’s Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artists and a conversation with The Barber of Seville director Chuck Hudson.
With a new name drawn from the Italian phrase prima voce (“first voice”), the evening offers audiences their first chance to hear Fort Worth Opera’s new Resident Artists while meeting the creative collaborators who will shape the productions to come, the company explains.
Next up will be a concert by Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique at TCU’s Van Cliburn Concert Hall on October 29. De Bique will be joined by Belgian pianist Aaron Wajnberg.
Having appeared with many of the world’s leading opera companies, De Bique is celebrated for her "radiant voice and magnetic stage presence." She released her debut album, Mirrors, in 2021.
The first production of the season will be the North Texas premiere of Derrick Wang’s courtroom comedy Scalia/Ginsburg, taking place at the Ridglea Theater on November 13 and 14.
The heartfelt opera explores the unlikely friendship between U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg - and the pivotal moment that would shape the Court for years to come.

The company's holiday production will be Gian Carlo Menotti’s Christmas opera Amahl and the Night Visitors, taking place at Stage West on December 12-13.
The new production, featuring Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artists soprano Ashlyn Rock, tenor Cecil Garrison, bass Noah Mond, and mezzo-soprano Lauren Salazar, honors the opera’s enduring legacy as a work that speaks with clarity and compassion to audiences of all ages.
Continuing the holiday season will be the company’s annual community holiday concert, Wintersong, taking place at First Presbyterian Church on December 19.
Now in its fifth year, the concert features performances by the company’s four Resident Artists singing Christmas carols and holiday classics alongside a festive audience sing-along,
Fort Worth Opera will once again look to the future with the 20th biennial Marguerite McCammon Voice Competition, taking place at the Kimbell Art Museum on February 28, 2027.
Since its debut in 1985 and held every two years, the McCammon Voice Competition has served as a high-stakes platform where emerging singers compete before leading industry professionals.
The final production of the season will be Gioachino Rossini’s comic masterpiece, The Barber of Seville, the only production of the season to take place at Bass Performance Hall, on April 16 and 18, 2027.
The fast-paced audience favorite brims with buoyant physical comedy, infectious wit, and dazzling vocal fireworks. It will also feature the return of distinguished conductor Christian Capocaccia to the Fort Worth Opera podium.
Beyond the mainstage season, Fort Worth Opera continues its Project: Opera initiative with Project: Opera - Macbeth, a student-centered exploration of Giuseppe Verdi’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy.
Through a TEKS-aligned, multi-week in-school residency, professional teaching artists and the Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artists will collaborate directly with high school students, guiding them through operatic storytelling, music, and performance.
Additionally, the company will present two children’s operas, Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World and The Ugly Duckling, at schools and community venues across Dallas-Fort Worth throughout the season.
Frida Kahlo... is a one-act work by composer and Music Director Emeritus Joe Illick and librettist Mark Campbell that brings the story of Kahlo and a young girl to life through imaginative storytelling and accessible music.
The Ugly Duckling, by American composer Andrew Duncan and librettist Steven Malone, brings Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved tale to life through accessible music and vivid storytelling.
