While many events in and around Fort Worth have either been postponed or canceled during the coronavirus pandemic, some organizations have pivoted to virtual or socially-distanced events to continue offering the masses some entertainment while we need it the most.
Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. While not every event is out of the house, they all promise to provide a nice distraction from the everyday life.
Friday, January 8
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents Profkofiev and Dvorák
The first concert of the year from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra includes Jennifer Higdon's Celestial Blue from "Dance Card," Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 (featuring violinist Stefan Jackiw), and Dvorák's Serenade in E Major. The concert, conducted by Robert Spano, will be performed four times through Sunday at Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium.
Magnolia at the Modern: The Dissident
In this documentary, Oscar-winning filmmaker Bryan Fogel (Icarus) investigates the 2018 murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The film, which is in English and Arabic with English subtitles, will screen five times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Josh Abbott Band in concert
The Josh Abbott Band, which was formed in Lubbock while all the members were students at Texas Tech, is part of the next generation of Red Dirt/Texas Country acts alongside Eli Young Band, Randy Rogers Band, and more. They'll play at Billy Bob's Texas in support of their new album, The Highway Kind.

Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth presents CMSFW Goes Virtual
The Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth continues its virtual season with Bohemian Luxury, featuring Ernst von Dohnányi's Serenade in C Major, Op. 10 and Antonín Dvořák's String Quintet in G Major, Op. 77. Performers include Gary Levinson, violin; Lucas Aleman, violin; Aaron Boyd, viola; Andrés Díaz, cello; and Nicolas Tsolainos, bass.
mau5trap presents deadmau5 x Lights All Night
Lights All Night is usually a two-day mega event with multiple EDM artists taking place around New Year's Eve and Day. This year, organizers have pivoted to make it a one-night-only outdoor affair featuring one of the top names in the industry, deadmau5. He'll perform from his latest releases and more at Texas Motor Speedway.

Modern Art Museum exhibition closures
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth will bring two exhibitions to a close. FOCUS: Marina Adams, which features the artist's acrylic-on-linen paintings, in which biomorphic forms dovetail, each structure distinguished by a solid field of color, and Mark Bradford: "End Papers," which focuses upon the key material and fundamental motif the artist employed early in his career and has returned to periodically over the past two decades.
