Ex-Sears at Arlington mall to get a new Dick's Sporting Goods spinoff

Dick's Sporting Goods / House of Sport
Sports gear chain Dick’s Sporting Goods is expanding its footprint at an Arlington mall: It will open House of Sport, a sportsy spinoff, in the former Sears store at 3871 S. Cooper St., in The Parks Mall, with an opening set for spring 2025.
House of Sport is Dick's "experiential" concept, first introduced in 2021, with a focus on multi-sport experiences and more customer engagement.
That includes going beyond just selling gear by providing various entertainments: virtual golf, virtual batting cages, rock climbing wall, and community events, such as opportunities to play against pro-golfers and climbing days. They'll also offer services such as golf swing coaching, bike tuneups & repair, and baseball and softball glove fitting and shaping.
This will be the third location in Texas, following Katy which opened in 2023 and Friendswood near Houston, which opened in 2024.
The Parks Mall already has a Dick's Sporting Goods, but its lease expires in 2027. At that time, The Parks Mall owner, Brookfield Properties, plans to convert that 82,000 square-foot space into retail and dining. Dick's Sporting Goods will relocate into the House of Sport's 120,000-square-foot space.
Sears closed in 2020. Its current transformation is part of the mall’s overall $45 million renovation, spread across two phases. The last time the mall saw any major upgrades was 2002, according to the City of Arlington.
House of Sport VP Toni Roeller says in a statement that they're excited to introduce the concept to new markets.
"It's exciting that the feedback from customers has been so positive and the communities see the stores as a destination. We're equally excited about bringing House of Sport to more communities in 2024 and beyond."
