Magnolia at the Modern: Jinsei
The hero (voiced by rapper ACE-COOL) of the epic animated film Jinsei is called by a different name in each chapter of his life, becoming a J-pop idol, an outcast, a leader, and an oracle. Through a chance encounter with a transfer student, he trains to become pop star, beginning his search for self-identity and a journey toward greatness beyond superstardom in this century-long chronicle that spans past, present, and future. There will be four screenings through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Billy Ray Cyrus in concert
Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus is erroneously labeled as a "one-hit wonder" even though the No. 1 "Achy Breaky Heart" was one of five top 10 hits he had in the first two years of his career. The success of his daughter (and occasional collaborator) Miley Cyrus has helped keep him relevant in the 30-plus years since, and now he's stepping back into the spotlight. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas in support of his new album, The Hill, released a mere four days before this concert.
Sunday, June 21
Louis Tomlinson in concert
The success of former One Direction members' solo careers has varied wildly, but Louis Tomlinson has found himself somewhere in the middle. Like each of his bandmates, Tomlinson's albums have done extremely well in the United Kingdom, with two of the three — including the new How Did I Get Here? — going to No. 1 there. The albums haven't gone quite as high in the U.S., but there are sure to be plenty of fans on hand at this concert at Dickies Arena.
Jubilee Theatre presents A Night with Ethel Waters
Jubilee Theatre will celebrate 46 years of powerful storytelling and unforgettable performances at A Night With Ethel Waters. In 2024, Bread N’ Gravy: The Life and Songs of Ethel Waters captivated audiences with its moving tribute to the trailblazing icon who helped shape jazz and blues. The theater will honor her legacy once again with a special birthday concert event at I.M. Terrell Academy, an elegant, black-tie evening of music, history, and celebration, hosted by Liz Mikel.
