On The Move
Fort Worth comedy troupe Four Day Weekend embraces vagabond lifestyle

Four Day Weekend is rolling with performing in new venues.
Six months after landing at Fort Worth theater Stage West, the improv comedy group Four Day Weekend is on the move again.
In a message posted to its Facebook page on February 10, the troupe explains that its residency at Stage West was always meant to be temporary, and that pop-up shows are already scheduled at new venues for March and April.
"We want to thank our dear friends at Stage West, especially their executive producer Dana Schultes, for hosting us for the past six months," says the post. "Please support the wonderful work being done by Stage West. They are an amazing arts organization to which 4day is forever indebted. We appreciate your support!"
"We have loved having Four Day Weekend here!" says Schultes. "They are an outstanding group of performers who spread joy and laughter through their craft. They have taken care of our space as if it were their own. They are without a doubt a gem in Fort Worth, and one of our nation’s best improv troupes. I very much hope that we see them in a new space soon. I also hope it is in the Near Southside. Fort Worth should work hard to keep them here."
FDW's last show at Stage West will be February 28 — coincidentally, the group's first-ever show was February 28, 1997, at Casa on the Square (now Casa Mañana).
The troupe will return to Casa Mañana for pop-up shows on March 22, March 29, and April 5. There will be two performances each night, at 7:30 pm and 10 pm, in the Reid Cabaret Theatre.
Prior to that, FDW will be in Mansfield, about 25 minutes southeast of Fort Worth, for pop-up shows at the Farr Best Theater. These will be on March 8 and 15, at 7:30 pm and 10 pm both nights.
In 2024, the critically acclaimed improvisational comedy group had to leave its space in downtown Fort Worth after 27 years following Sundance Square management’s decision not to renew their lease.
Schultes tells CultureMap that a combination of needing the space back (FDW has been using the larger of Stage West's two stages) and a monetary bottom line led both parties to the amicable and mutually agreed-upon end date.
"Stage West is a nonprofit organization and Four Day Weekend is a for-profit business," Schultes explains. "This brought up an important question about tax liability, which took a little time to research. We soon calculated that due to Unrelated Business Taxable Income, our ability to host Four Day indefinitely was not an option. There was almost no financial gain once all the numbers added up on both sides. While we love them, hosting them without a decent showing on the bottom line couldn’t be justified, especially given the crunch to our own educational programming — a major part of our work for the community at large."
"We are committed to finding a new home in Fort Worth," the Facebook post reads. "Please hang tight as we continue to finalize plans. We will keep you posted!"
Four Day Weekend has a second location in Dallas, near Greenville Avenue, which is continuing to operate as normal.
Tickets for remaining shows at Stage West, future shows at the pop-up locations, and Dallas shows are available at fourdayweekend.com.
