Buzzy pickleball thwacks into Fort Worth via new venue from Utah chain
A national pickleball franchise is opening its first facility in Fort Worth. Called Picklr, it’ll open in White Settlement at 1705 S. Cherry Ln., taking over the discount store Dirt Cheap’s former location.
According to a release, the facility will open in late May. It’s part of the national franchise Picklr, headquartered in Kaysville, Utah with nearly 200 facilities across multiple states.
The Fort Worth location will be Picklr’s first in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with two additional locations planned in Hurst and McKinney, which will have nine indoor courts.
The concept is a rarity in Fort Worth — although the sport has exploded in popularity across North Texas and the country, many of the new pickleball facilities taking DFW by storm have been concentrated in Dallas, Frisco, and Plano. Although there are several public and private tennis courts in Fort Worth that can be used to play pickleball, the only facility dedicated to pickleball is Courtside Kitchen, a restaurant/pickleball venue that opened in 2021.
Picklr’s Fort Worth venue will take over a 34,000-square-foot space, allowing for league play, tournaments, and open play. It’s meant to be welcoming to both pro and amateur pickleball players, with coaching available for all ages and a pro equipment shop on site.
Their courts are built with a 30-by-60-foot playing area, which is the professional standard for pickleball.
“Bringing The Picklr to West Fort Worth means our community will benefit from the best-in-class in indoor pickleball,” says Zion Meer, the Fort Worth franchisee. “Pickleball players in North Central Texas will have a place to call home as they connect, dink, and compete.”
The Fort Worth facility is part of a huge expansion plan for the Picklr franchise, with 262 new locations planned across 36 states, according to the release. They’re planning to build more than 2,000 new pickleball courts over the next few years.
