Which stores are open on Thanksgiving Day in Fort Worth
The Thanksgiving Day holiday is coming up on Thursday, November 28, and if you're a last-minute shopper, you're going to need to know what's open and when.

Here's what's open and closed on Thanksgiving Day in Fort Worth:
DART-TRE HOURS
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Bus and Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.
Trinity Railway Express (TRE): TRE will not operate on Thursday, November 28, and will provide Saturday service on Friday, November 29.
DART and TRE holiday service will continue until the regular scheduled transit service resumes on Saturday, November 30.
CITY OF FORT WORTH
In observance of Thanksgiving Day, city of Fort Worth offices and certain facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 28.
Animal Services. North Animal Campus and Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed November 28-29. Normal operations resume Saturday, November 30. Both Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and will be open on Friday, November 29, from 7 am-9 pm.
Public Libraries. All Fort Worth Library locations will be closed November 28-29. Hours will resume on Saturday, November 30.
Sanitation Services. The City of Fort Worth does not collect solid waste on Thanksgiving Day, including garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk. Collections are shifted for the days around Thanksgiving as follows:
- Thursday: Collections are moved to Friday
- Friday: Collections are moved to Saturday
- Bulk collections: Resume on Friday
Normal collection schedule resumes on Monday, December 2.
With all of the gluttony, the city is allowing extra bags to accommodate holiday disposal needs. Extra bags: All residents are allowed two extra bags of garbage on their first pickup day following Thanksgiving. The two extra bags are to be set on the curb next to your brown garbage cart on your collection day. The bags should not exceed a standard, 32-gallon kitchen trash bag.
SUPERMARKETS - OPEN
- Albertsons: Select stores open from 6 am-3 pm.
- Central Market: 8 am-2 pm.
- H.E.B.: 6 am-12 pm.
- Kroger: Most DFW stores will be open 6 am-5 pm.
- Sprouts Farmers Market: 7 am-2 pm.
- Tom Thumb: 6 am- 4 pm.
- Whole Foods: Most DFW area stores will be open 7 am-1 pm.
- Winco. The 24-hour chain will be open until 3 pm.
SUPERMARKETS - CLOSED
RETAIL & CONVENIENCE - OPEN
- CVS. Some stores are open 9 am-2 pm.
- Big Lots: 7 am-9 pm, but some stores may close earlier.
- Family Dollar: Some stores will be open from 8 am-6 pm, but hours vary by location.
- Starbucks. 6 am-6 pm, although hours vary by location.

TURKEY TROT
The annual Turkey Trot morning run will take place at the Shops at Clearfork — where it relocated in 2023 — with the first race, the 8K, starting at 7:45 am. They avoid any mention of street closures, but the map seems to indicate that one side of Hulen Street will be closed between Clearfork Main Street and Bellaire Drive S. They do say that on-street parking will not be permitted in the Clearfork Shopping Center.
