These are the 8 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
With one huge event coming to Fort Worth this weekend — the return of the musical Hamilton — it seems like other events have cleared out. But there will still be fun things to do, including four concerts, screenings of a new documentary, a comedian, and a local theater production.
Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. If you want more options, check out the calendar for an even longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, July 16
Broadway at the Bass presents Hamilton
Lin-Manuel Miranda's instant classic Broadway musical Hamilton has been a huge hit for over 10 years, and that fervor doesn't seem likely to end anytime soon. This is the third time in four years that the multi-Tony Award winner has come to Fort Worth as part of its various national tours, and the sold out shows indicate that fans have not yet tired of the production's ingenious combination of history, hip hop, and storytelling. It will run through July 26 at Bass Performance Hall.
Carson Jeffrey in concert
Singer-songwriter Carson Jeffrey is a full-time, authentic-to-the-core cowboy and a part-time musician. During the week, he fills his days building barns, fixing fences, mowing pastures, and roping calves. When the weekend, comes he converts to a road warrior playing venues throughout Texas. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas in support of his new album, Comancheria.
Friday, July 17
Magnolia at the Modern: Peter Asher: Everywhere Man
Peter Asher’s extraordinary life has intersected with some of the greatest artists and musical moments of the last six decades. A child actor who became a pop star and then a manager and producer for the likes of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, Asher is a Zelig-like figure who remains a vital creative force to this day. The documentary, featuring interviews with Paul McCartney, Carole King, and more, will screen six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Hyena's presents Jon Stringer
Jon Stringer was born in the early '80s as the youngest of three children. Perhaps expectedly, he developed into an incurable attention seeker with a gift for making people laugh. A self-described "late bloomer," Stringer would only discover his passion for stand-up comedy on his 30th birthday. He can be heard regularly on I Heart Radio, as well as be seen on Netflix (Chingo Bling's They Can't Deport Us). He'll perform four times through Saturday at Hyena's Comedy Club.
Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters in concert
If you only know Billy Bob Thornton from his acting career, you're missing half the picture. Sure, the Oscar winner continues to churn out quality work on both the big and small screens — most recently Taylor Sheridan's Landman — but he's equally passionate about his music career with his band, The Boxmasters. They'll play at Billy Bob's Texas in support of their 2025 album, Pepper Tree Hill.
Saturday, July 18
Mid-Cities Arts Collective presents AMON! The Ultimate Texan
AMON! The Ultimate Texan brings to life the story of Texas media powerhouse Amon G. Carter Sr. Written by Texas columnist Dave Lieber, AMON! delivers a sharp, fast-paced portrait filled with humor, history, and Texas-sized personality. Starring Kelvin Dilks, the production runs through July 26 at Platinum Music Complex NRH in North Richland Hills.

Classical Music in the Movies will include selections from Immortal Beloved, as well as movies that include Schubert, Rachmaninov, and even Irish jig scenes from Titanic. They will also feature contemporary composers like Rolf Lovland (“The Secret Garden”) and Ennio Morricone. Performers at the event will include featuring violinists LeeAnne Chenoweth and Keyreel Raskolenko, cellist Alice (Jeong-A) Lee, pianist Heejung, tenor Sergio Cepeda, and soprano Youna Hartgraves. The concert takes place at River Legacy Nature Center in Arlington.
Broadway at the Bass presents Hamilton at Bass Performance Hall through July 26.
Los Lonely Boys in concert
Hailing from San Angelo, Los Lonely Boys play a style of music that they've dubbed "Texican Rock 'n' Roll," which blends elements of rock, blues, soul, country, and Tejano. After self-releasing a couple of albums in the 1990s, they scored two top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 in the 2000s. After a long layoff, they put out their first new album in 10 years in 2024, Resurrection. They'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.
