Weekend Event Planner
These are the 10 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
It's not often that Fort Worth gets the national tour of a Broadway show before any other city in Texas, but this weekend brings one of those occasions. Other choices include five concerts, two local theater productions, screenings of a new documentary, and an opera production.
Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. If you want more options, check out the calendar for an even longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, August 6
Broadway at the Bass presents Suffs
The Tony Award-winning musical Suffs is about the brilliant, passionate, and funny American women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote. From the mind of artist Shaina Taub, the new musical boldly explores the triumphs and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over. Making its final stop of its first national tour, Suffs will play at Bass Performance Hall through Sunday.
Chayce Beckham in concert
Country singer Chayce Beckham won the 19th season of American Idol by doing something that had never been done on the show before: Winning with an original song, "23," which Beckham had written a year before going on the reality competition. After releasing an EP in 2022, he released his debut album, Bad for Me, in 2024. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.
Hip Pocket Theatre presents Raggedy Farm
In Raggedy Farm, a star-kissed orphan falls into the loving arms of Rose and Roy, who move from city living to sweet country life. Love interests and grand fantasies lure the daughter while circus tales await. Told through songs, the poetic, back-to-the-roots tale is tender and timeless. The production runs through August 23 at Hip Pocket Theatre.
Friday, August 7
Magnolia at the Modern: Cookie Queens
A celebration of girlhood and the complexities that come with it, Cookie Queens is a coming-of-age story about the joys, pressures, and tensions woven into one of America’s most cherished rituals: Girl Scout Cookie season. Produced by Archewell Productions, a company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the film will screen six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Marco Antonio Solís in concert
Marco Antonio Solís has released 10 albums in his career, most recently Gracias Por Estar Aquí in 2013. With a career spanning five decades, multiple international awards, and a musical legacy that has defined entire generations, Solís continues to solidify his position as one of the most important artists in the history of Spanish-language music globally. He'll perform at Dickies Arena.
Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents Steel Magnolias
In a small Louisiana beauty salon, a group of strong-willed women share laughter, tears, and enduring friendship. Through sharp humor and heart felt honesty, Steel Magnolias captures the strength of community and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of life’s joys and sorrows. The production runs through August 16 at Stolen Shakespeare Guild.
Gretchen Wilson in concert
The debut single of country singer Gretchen Wilson was called "Redneck Woman," so there was no mistaking what type of artist she would be. Her album titles — including Here for the Party, One of the Boys, and Ready to Get Rowdy — have solidified her reputation as anything but your stereotypical female musician. Although she hasn't put out a new album since 2017, she released a new song, "Little Miss Runner Up," in 2024, and collaborated on the recent Alli Walker song "First Time Living." She'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.
Saturday, August 8
Atchley Opera presents Così fan tutte
Atchley Opera will present an imaginative new production of Così fan tutte that transports Mozart's beloved masterpiece to the glamorous world of a 1940s Hollywood film studio. Inspired by the charm, wit, and elegance of Hollywood's Golden Age, the production blends vintage cinematic style with Mozart's timeless score to create an evening full of laughter, romance, and theatrical spectacle. The production will be at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts.
Josh Ward in concert
Country singer Josh Ward has had a big presence in the Texas country music world for almost 20 years. Over that time, he's released six albums (including Same Ol’ Cowboy, Different Rodeo in 2025) and charted nine consecutive No. 1 songs in the state. He'll return to one his favorite venues, Billy Bob's Texas, for another turn at entertaining the masses.
Sunday, August 9
The Guess Who in concert
Canadian rock band The Guess Who got their start in the mid-1960s, but didn't truly break out until 1970 with, ironically, the album American Woman. The early '70s would prove to be their heyday, as the group's last official album came out in 1976. After a decades-long dispute with original bassist Jim Dale over the band's name, guitarist Randy Bachman and singer Burton Cummings regained control in 2024, and they will be front and center for this concert at Dickies Arena.
