Hot grilled cheese-and-soup concept chooses Fort Worth for next restaurant
Grilled cheese restaurant Tom+Chee likes North Texas: The Cincinnati-based chain is opening a second location in the area, this time at 8901 Tehama Ridge Pkwy. in Fort Worth. Opening day is March 2.
Tom+Chee was co-founded by two couples: former restaurant manager Trew Quackenbush and his wife, Jennifer, and entrepreneur Corey Ward and his wife, Jenny Rachford. They began as a tent next to an ice-skating rink in Cincinnati's Fountain Square, opened three stores in that market, and then began franchising.
Local franchisees Greg and Wendy Sippel opened the first Texas location in Richardson in July 2015.
Tom+Chee specializes in the quintessential combination of tomato soup and grilled cheese. The menu has more than 20 sandwiches, including a vegetarian option and an offbeat version made on doughnuts, which the Today Show proclaimed one of the best sandwiches in America. You can build-your-own grilled cheese sandwich, choosing from breads such as white, wheat berry, pumpernickel rye, glazed doughnut, and gluten-free.
There are three versions of tomato soup: smooth, chunky tomato basil, and creamy tomato basil. There are also salads, as well as vegan and gluten-free items.
Tom+Chee been featured on ABC's Shark Tank, The Chew, Travel Channel's Man vs Food Nation, and Amazing Eats.
