Austin's Hat Creek Burger flips 2 family-friendly Fort Worth locations
An Austin burger chain is serving up a double with two new locations opening in Tarrant County: Hat Creek Burger Company is a fast-casual, family-friendly burger chain from Austin, and it has opened a restaurant in Roanoke, and has another coming soon in Keller.
The Roanoke location is at 870 E. Hwy 114, by the theater and On the Border; it opened February 19.
The other location is at 5300 Golden Triangle Blvd., listed as "Keller" on their website although the street address is Fort Worth. It's in front of the Walmart, a block or so west of Main Street, and according to a company representative, it'll open in the spring.
Hat Creek does burgers, shakes, sandwiches, and salads, with a great emphasis on being family-friendly.
The company was founded in 2008 by Drew Gressett as a food truck on Austin's 6th Street with a commitment to fellowship and fresh cheeseburgers. He made the jump to brick-and-mortar status in Austin, then expanded to DFW, where he's since opened nine locations including Allen, Dallas, Frisco, McKinney, Rowlett, Richardson, Roanoke, Sachse, and Mansfield, which just opened in October 2019.
Gressett was born in Dallas, and still has ties to North Texas, which factored into their decision to come to the area.
"We decided on Dallas because of its large population of families looking for a great place to enjoy awesome food and awesome service," he says.
The chain also expanded to Houston and Waco, and currently has 24 locations with three more on the way.
They're known for never-frozen beef burgers, creative milkshakes, and gluten-free chicken "flashers," as well as their dedication to providing a family dining experience for parents and children.
Each location comes with a playscape for children. But they don't do pre-fab playgrounds — each location has its own stamp and identity. Some include a mini Airstream trailer, a motif at their original location in Austin.
The menu is fairly simple. Burger options include a single, double, turkey burger, or vegan-friendly veggie burger which you can customize or order in one of five options including the Cowboy Hat with cheddar, bacon, red onion, pickles, and BBQ sauce; or the Sombrero with pepperjack, jalapenos, grilled onions, and Yellowbird Hot Sauce.
Other options include three chicken sandwiches; three salads including a Cobb; and sides such as tater tots and sweet potato fries.
In addition to lunch and dinner, Hat Creek offers a full breakfast menu of tacos, platters, and pancakes from 7-10:30 am daily, featuring ingredients from local suppliers such as Vital Farms organic eggs and Cuvée Coffee.
Tuesdays are Family Nights, with half-price burgers after 5 pm. But the adults are not left behind: On Thursdays, it's half-price beer and wine all day.
