Best New Restaurants
Some Fort Worth love on expert's list of best new restaurants in Texas
Fort Worth gets a nod on Texas Monthly's list of the best new restaurants in the state, as selected by food critic Patricia Sharpe. One restaurant makes the cut, same as last year.
"Since I began compiling our annual roundup, in 2002, I've never seen as many exceptional new restaurants," Sharpe writes. To qualify, these places had to open between November 1, 2014, and November 30, 2015.
The lucky restaurant in Fort Worth is Horseshoe Hill Cafe, an eatery in the Stockyards Historic District from Grady Spears. "This is the kind of food that Big Tex — the 55-foot-tall cowboy who looms benevolently over the State Fair of Texas — would eat if he were a real person," writes Sharpe, noting that "classic Texas dishes are done right here." Roasted chicken, mustard-spiked deviled eggs, chicken fried steak, and even calf fries get a special call-out.
Another Fort Worth restaurant, Cannon Chinese Kitchen, earns an honorable mention.
The rest of the top 10 consists of four Austin restaurants (Launderette, Juniper, Vox Table, and Emmer & Rye), three from Houston (Helen, SaltAir Seafood Kitchen, and Cureight), and two in Dallas (Rapscallion and Ten).
