Fort Worth chef Tim Love debuts trendy new Tex-Mex 'ghost kitchen'

Some burritos, some tacos, some 'ritas is all you need.

Always on trend, Fort Worth's favorite celebrity chef Tim Love has launched a new "ghost restaurant" concept dedicated to Mexican food.

Called Burritos, Fajitas and 'Ritas, it'll be in step with the hot ghost kitchen trend right now in which restaurants are doing takeout and delivery only, with no dining rooms.

"It was time for us to get into delivery," Love says. "So many people aren't dining out right now. This is a great way for them to keep enjoying our food and a great way for us to keep doing what we do best."

The concept lives up to its name, offering these three important food groups:

fajitas, in three varieties, including a veggie option
burritos stuffed with choice of nearly a dozen ingredients
margaritas

Love says he's stressing the quality of the food over the quantity.

"It's a small menu but the quality sets us apart," he says. "We use fresh flour tortillas for both the fajitas and burritos. We use prime outside skirt steak and my own rub for the beef. We use all organic chicken and our own poultry rub. And our vegetable fajitas are made with squash from the Gemelle garden. And we do an amazing creamy jalapeño salsa that is dairy-free."

For dessert there are warm chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies, plus "boozy" popsicles.

Love is launching the concept in four cities across Texas: Fort Worth, followed by Denton, Austin, and Houston, debuting on July 21. With the exception of Fort Worth, pick-up locations will be at other Love restaurants, where the food will also be prepared.

"We’re doing this in every city where we have a restaurant," Love says. "We've put in secondary kitchens to cook the meals and restaurant employees will make the deliveries."

Locations are as follows:

Fort Worth: at Love's catering kitchen, at 917 North Main St.
Denton: at Queenie’s Steakhouse at 115 E. Hickory St.
Austin: at Lonesome Dove, 419 Colorado St.
Houston: at Woodshed Smokehouse, at 3728 Wakeforest Ave.

A fifth location in Knoxville will launch later in July, out of the Knoxville location of Lonesome Dove.

Place your order online, for pick-up or delivery only, from 11:30 am-7:30 pm Tuesday-Saturday. For delivery, there's a $5 fee and a $40 minimum for each order (there's no minimum for takeout). Deliveries will be available to those within a five-mile radius of each restaurant. That radius may expand, Love says.

"If this takes off and there's a big demand for it, we'll definitely take another look at the delivery radius," he says. "But right now, with a small staff, I want to start out small and make it as easy on my team as I can for deliveries."

Love says the concept grew out Bring Love Home, a family meal initiative he started in the spring after his restaurants closed due to COVID.

"When the restaurants reopened in May, we thought things were getting better," he says. "But now that we're back to 50 percent capacity, I knew we had to come up with another plan. When we were doing Bring Love Home, the meals with the fajitas and chile rellenos always went first, so I knew we wanted to apply that toward a new concept."

Christmas Day is the one day of the year that many businesses, including restaurants around Dallas-Fort Worth, close their doors. But there are exceptions, and that includes restaurants on this list: the restaurants that are open on Christmas Day.

Here's all the restaurants across Dallas-Fort Worth that are open for dining on Christmas Day: (This list does not include Christmas Eve or Christmas to-go.)

Emilia's. Restaurant at the Crescent Hotel Fort Worth will host a holiday buffet with gingerbread pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, yogurt-granola parfaits, carving station with Prime rib, leg of lamb with mint jelly, turkey breast, mashed potatoes & gravy, mac & cheese, creamed spinach, sautéed mushrooms, honey-roasted carrots & parsnips, green bean almondine, Brussels sprouts, Parker House rolls, buttermilk biscuits, salad station, cheese & charcuterie, seafood station with shrimp cocktail & oysters, and mini desserts. Live! by Loews Arlington restaurant is hosting Christmas dinner with chef Robert Carr's holiday special, beef Wellington with whipped Yukon gold potatoes & glazed root vegetables wine demi-glace, in addition to traditional menu options including crab legs, Prime NY strip, and salmon. Del Frisco's Double Eagle. Christmas feast for four, served on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, features winter green salad, veal & wagyu meatballs with tomato fondue, 40-oz Wagyu bone-in ribeye, sweet potato casserole with marshmallow & pecan crumble, Brussels sprouts, gingerbread butter cake with apple compote, chocolate mousse cake with peppermint crumble, $395 for four people. Del Frisco's Grille. The Holly Jolly Feast for 3-4 people, served on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, features winter greens, New England clam chowder, 40-oz prime rib roast, green beans, scalloped Yukon gold & sweet potato gratin, red velvet cheesecake with cream cheese frosting, or apple cobbler. $295 for 3-4 people. 12-8 pm. Dimassi’s Mediterranean Buffet. Exceptional family-owned Texas chain will be open for Christmas Day, offering their full Mediterranean buffet for holiday dining, featuring falafel, chicken & rice, hummus, grape leaves, Italian green beans with tomato, eggplant in pomegranate molasses, tabouli, kale Caesar, and more. $24. Served at all seven DFW locations: Allen, Richardson, Plano, Mesquite, Irving, Grapevine, and Fort Worth.

Eataly — La Pizza & La Pasta. Three-course Italian prix-fixe menu includes roasted beets with whipped ricotta & truffle honey, burrata with Tuscan tomato bread compote, mushroom lasagna, butternut squash gnocchi with black truffle, tagliatelle with Tuscan ragù, lobster linguine, insalata di mare, tagliolini with white truffle, and panettone. Farena. Loews Arlington Hotel restaurant is offering an Italian Continental breakfast buffet featuring baked pastries, seasonal fruits, and traditional breakfast dishes. The traditional dinner menu includes a classic Margherita pizza, veal milanese, prime 10-ounce filet mignon, and Executive Chef Tony France's Christmas special, herb crusted osso buco. $35 breakfast buffet; a la carte dinner pricing. Flix Brewhouse. Small theater chain with in-house restaurant and craft beer brewery will host their annual "Flixmas" event, featuring holiday classics including It's a Wonderful Life. They'll serve their full menu as well as a month-long feature called the Kobe Curdmeister; a cocktail tied to Avatar: Fire and Ash called the Ashbreaker; a house-made soda called Pineapple Under the Sea (for SpongeBob: The Search for Square Pants), and a stroopwaffle inspired ale. 11:45 am-10 pm. Knife Italian. Ritz Carlton-Las Colinas restaurant is hosting a grand buffet inspired by the elegance of New York’s iconic Rainbow Room, with chef stations, live entertainment, and a Champagne and Bloody Mary bar. $159. 11 am-3 pm. 972-717-2420.

97 West Kitchen & Bar. Restaurant at Hotel Drover will be open on Christmas Day for brunch and dinner. Three-course brunch from 8 am–2 pm will feature cinnamon rolls with sweet & spicy pecans, cream corn fritters, lobster omelet with mushrooms & black pepper bacon, and prawns with herb goat cheese grits. Four-course dinner from 4–9 pm will include bacon-wrapped dates, cheese ravioli with crab & Boursin cream, lamb shank over grits, crawfish-stuffed salmon with étouffée sauce, surf & turf with 6-oz filet & buttered lobster topping, black forest cake, and eggnog tres leches. Reasonably priced steakhouse chain will be open on Christmas Day with a full menu of Angus beef steaks, seafood, desserts, and plus a featured special: center-cut top sirloin steak with grilled or fried shrimp. All locations in Bedford, The Colony, Denton, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Irving, Lewisville, Mansfield, McKinney, Mesquite, North Arlington, North Dallas, Plano, and Rockwall.

Sanjh Restaurant & Bar.
