Family-owned Fort Worth bakery takes sweet stuff to Dallas' Park Cities

A favorite Fort Worth bakery is headed for Dallas' upscale Park Cities area. J. Rae's will open at The Pavilion on Lovers Lane, where it will do homemade-style desserts including cupcakes, cheesecakes, cakeballs, and cookies.
The bakery will be located at 5600 W Lovers Ln. #143, formerly home to a location of Paciugo Gelato. According to a release, it'll open later this winter.
The family-owned bakery was first opened in Fort Worth in 2008 by Jana Howell. It has since changed hands, and is still open on Foch Street in the bustling West 7th area of Fort Worth. But now Howell's niece Audrey Dixon is picking up the baton.
Dixon wants to keep the family business and recipes alive. And she wants to follow a lifelong passion (the release doesn't come out and say what that passion is, but we'll guess it's "baking").
When she found herself in between jobs during the pandemic, she decided it was the time to carry on the family business in Dallas, where she lives.
In a statement, Dixon says she has worked in the hospitality industry for most of her career and is excited to make the move from behind the desk to behind a counter.
When the location on Lovers Lane became available, she knew it was the perfect place.
"I laugh because when I told those closest to me I was opening a bakery everyone's response was 'finally!'" she says.
Cookies, cupcakes, and cakeballs will be available for purchase individually or by the dozen. And this is convenient: cheesecakes will be available in three sizes, including 5-inch, 7-inch, and 9-inch.
She calls her style of baking approachable and family-friendly.
"Some of the earliest memories I have of my mom and aunt are of them baking chocolate chip cookies, and it eventually became something we would do together," she says.
