This Week in Gluttony
These are the 6 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week
Make spirits bright this week with a handful of holiday happenings, including a whiskey happy hour, bakery open house, and a Christmas sip-and-shop complete with mimosas and brunch bites. There also are beer pairings — one with tacos (on Tuesday, fittingly) and the other with barbecue. Lastly, pull out that set of onesie pajamas for a cozy and hilarious bar crawl.
Tuesday, November 27
Saint Arnold Beer & Taco Pairing at Taco Heads
There’ll be two off-menu tacos prepared exclusively to pair with Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s new floral and fruity Daydream Belgian saison. One will offer chipotle roasted pork with pickled slaw, cotija cheese, and cilantro; and the other, seared redfish with green cabbage, mango-habanero salsa, queso fresco, and cilantro. The $12 price includes the two tacos plus the beer and a free Saint Arnold’s glass, while they last. The pairing will run from 6-9 pm and there’ll be live music, too.
Thursday, November 29
Holiday Happy Hour at Whiskey Ranch
Here’s a rare chance to take in the scenery and the spirits of Firestone & Robertson’s Fort Worth distillery after dark. (Hours are typically very limited.) A $20 ticket includes two whiskey cocktails, live music, and a donation to three local charities. The happy hour will run both Thursday and Friday evening from 5-8 pm. Holy Frijole food truck will be on site with food for sale both nights.
Saturday, December 1
BBQ & Brews at HopFusion Ale Works
Arlington-based, Tex-Mex-style barbecue gurus Hurtado Barbecue will cook carnivorous specialties at the South Fort Worth brewery all afternoon. Menu items include prime brisket and beef ribs, pork belly burnt ends, and jalapeño cheddar sausage, along with sides like Hatch chile mac and cheese and brisket burnt ends elote. There’ll also be banana pudding cupcakes. Menu items and beer will be available for purchase a la carte, and the event will run from 2-7 pm.
Onesie Bar Crawl
Why waste those flamboyant adult onesies lounging around at home? Zip up those bad boys and head out on the town at this bar crawl that encourages comfort while imbibing. The crawl will start at 6 pm at Bar 2909 near West Seventh Street, with a check-in party until 7:30 pm. Staff will then guide bar-crawlers on an escapade of stops, where drink and food specials will be available. The $20 ticket price includes flashing LED loot like glasses, a pacifier and wristband, as well as waived cover charges at each participating bar. The crawl will run until midnight.
Sunday, December 2
Holiday Sip & Shop Brunch at Poured
Sipping and shopping go hand-in-hand, especially when mimosas are involved. Enjoy brunch bites while perusing a handful of boutiques and artists at the Mansfield wine bar. The $20 fee includes entry and food. Patrons can also enjoy “almost bottomless” mimosas for $10 more, as well as happy hour pricing on wine and beer. The event will run from 11 am-3 pm, and reservations are encouraged.
Annual Cookie and Kringle Open House at Three Danes Baking Company
Try before you buy at this complimentary sampling and ordering party, which includes tastes of the family-owned bakery’s Danish goodies and holiday cookies. Wash it all down with spiced wine and hot chocolate, and then place holiday orders with weeks to spare before Christmas. The party will run from 4-7 pm.
