3rd Street Market opens in FW's Sundance Square with all the best eats
A former bar and grill in Fort Worth's Sundance Square is about to become a splendid market. Called 3rd St. Market, it'll open at 425 W. 3rd St., in what was once Frankie's (and more recently 3rd St Bar & Grill), featuring all the best stuff to eat: sourdough bread, sandwiches, soups, pastries, charcuterie, and wine.
The market is from a beloved foodie duo: former Cafe Modern chef Dena Peterson Shaskan and breadmaker Trent Shaskan of Icon Bread. The project is part of Sundance Square's initiative to emphasize unique and local restaurants.
According to a release, they'll officially open on Monday, October 17, from 7 am-7 pm, but with a pre-opening party on Saturday October 15, from 4-7pm. Be there or be square.
They'll be open for breakfast and lunch with an array of juices, breads, spreads, and sandwiches.
A sample menu features tempting items such as poblano chicken corn chowder, and salads like roasted cauliflower & lacinato kale with almonds and sultanas. Forget raisins, not fancy enough - gotta be sultanas.
Typical sandwiches might include:
- Pan Bagnat - tuna with olives, artichoke hearts, and green beans on Icon Classic Sourdough
- Smoked Turkey - with Honeycrisp apple slaw and Muenster cheese on Icon Seeded Sourdough
- Housemade Pimento Cheese - with Texas tomatoes on Icon Sesame Semolina Sourdough
They'll also have a grab-and-go section with charcuterie boards plus fresh produce and fancy foodstuffs like Sicilian olive oil, juices in glass recyclable bottles from Squoze Juicery, and pastries from Libos Dulceria - some of which are also sold at The Table, the retail market and culinary studio that Dena and Trent opened with partners Hao Tran and Dixya Bhattarai in the Near Southside in 2019.
Saving the best for last (because bread is the best), 3rd Street will feature breads by Icon Bread, Trent's artisan bakery which sells to farmers markets and will now be available on site in varieties such as
- Classic - made with Barton Springs Mill Quanah Whole Wheat Flour
- Caramelized Onion with Swiss Cheese & Thyme
- Chocolate Cherry - Springs Mill Yecora Rojo Whole Wheat Flour, Semi-Sweet Chocolate, and Sweet Dried Cherries
3rd Street Market will also be home to Indulge, a culinary space offering cooking classes, private events, and weekly afternoon tea. (They already have a Spooky Afternoon Tea penciled in for October 23 and October 30.) Their full cooking class schedule and afternoon tea reservation can be found online at www.indulgefw.com/.
