There’s a new restaurant and bar on Fort Worth's South Main Street with big borough energy. Called Brooklyn’s, it has opened in the former Tre Mogli space at 401 S. Main St., bringing NYC-inspired street food and creative cocktails to the Near Southside.
Brooklyn's comes from first-time restaurateur Brandi Bohn, who was was born in Decatur and raised in Hurst. After eight years in the hospitality industry - starting as a "cart girl" at Abilene Country Club and eventually becoming bar captain and manager at Fort Worth restaurant Quince - Bohn says she wanted to bring a concept back to the community that shaped her.
“I loved skating as a kid and my dream is to do a hybrid concept of a skate park and a restaurant, which I may do eventually,” Bohn says. “But my dad told me to start smaller.”
Bohn brought on executive chef Cole Elrod, a 15-year culinary veteran whom she worked with at Abilene Country Club, to lead the kitchen.
The American fusion menu features flavors that span Asia to Italy, with handhelds like a bacon jam cheeseburger, Bulgogi fried rice wrap, and meatball hoagie (all $19), alongside salads and pizzas such as blackened chicken béchamel and teriyaki chicken (both $20).
Entrees lean more upscale, with dishes like a hoisin-glazed Trueblood ribeye ($61), orange lemonongrass shrimp scampi ($25), and monster kabob ($25).
“The menu draws influences from the food scene in Brooklyn, which has all the concepts I love," Bohn says. "I want to show people that restaurants don’t have to fit into just one box and make something that defines boundaries.”
Cocktails are a major focus, with an expansive list of creative signature pours. Highlights include the All-Inclusive, made with Texas Ranger Coconut Pecan Whiskey, Amaro Montenegro, allspice, and Fever-Tree pineapple ginger beer; the Cloud Lily, featuring butterfly pea tea-infused Warner’s gin, lemon, Gran Gala, and egg white; and the Kyoto Cowboy, a mix of Siete Leguas Blanco tequila, yuzu lemongrass cordial, lime leaf-infused Topo Chico, and a candied Buddha’s hand garnish.
When Bohn began scouting locations, the former Tre Mogli restaurant space on a hot strip of South Main Street stood out immediately, she says. Tre Mogli was a high-profile Italian restaurant from Trident Restaurant Group and chef Stefon Rishel that opened in mid-2022 but then closed suddenly in fall 2023. It has stood vacant ever since.
The entire space spans two stories. At the moment, only the downstairs part is open, but the upstairs will eventually become Dopamine Decor, a spot to host art shows and events, featuring a retro, brightly colored, funky aesthetic, she says.
“I fell in love with how the building felt like two separate entities," Bohn says. "I wanted to have a cocktail lounge upstairs and a full-service restaurant downstairs with a pizza oven.”
Nearly every element in Brooklyn’s carries personal meaning for Bohn. Named as tribute to her daughter whom she gave up for adoption, and featuring a mural in her honor, the space is shaped by Bohn’s experience overcoming addiction and triumphing over struggles. Motifs of creativity and second chances are carried throughout.
Brooklyn’s is now open for happy hour from 4-6 pm and dinner from 5-11 pm on weeknights, with hours extending to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Brunch is also in the works.
