This week in gluttony
These are the 5 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week
Christmas arrives early this year thanks to a holly jolly pop-up in Grapevine. Even Santa himself will make a rare summer appearance. For those still in full summer mode, go loco for coconuts with a tropical-themed luau this weekend, or try some new poolside sippers during a summer wine tasting. There’s also opportunity to learn pie-making skills from one of the most talented bakers in town. Bonus that class takes place at a whiskey distillery, where cocktails will be ready for pairing.

It’s a match made in Southern cooking heaven – whiskey and pie. Join Sweet Lucy’s Pies owner Lindsey Lawing as she demonstrates how she creates her award-winning pies. Participants will make their own take-and-bake pie to-go and will get to enjoy a mini pie paired with TX Whiskey cocktail. The class is $65 and includes a drink ticket to be redeemed at the TX Tavern bar, along with a cocktail during class. Doors open at 6 pm and the class will run from 7-8 pm.

Crown Royal Dinner at Cast Iron
Here’s one for the Crown fans. The Omni Fort Worth Hotel restaurant Cast Iron will host a four-course pairing dinner featuring Crown Royal. Guests will hear from a Crown Royal “Crown Master” who’ll guide diners through each pairing, which will feature an 18-year age expression of the spirit. Menu highlights include diver scallops, pork shank confit, and a sweet ube beignet with whiskey caramel miso. The event is $85, plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 6:30 pm with a reception, followed by dinner at 7 pm.

Santa Meet-and-Greet at Harvest Hall
The Holly Jolly Bar has popped up for Christmas in July at Hotel Vin's Harvest Hall to help keep cool during summer’s hottest days. Enjoy kitschy Christmas décor and seasonal cocktails, like the Peppermint Bark martini or Santa on the Beach, through July 31. Kids get in on the holiday fun with a chance to meet Santa. He and his elves will make a rare summer appearance for photo ops and more between 1-3 pm Friday; free but reservations are required.
Loco for Coconut Party at Truck Yard Alliance
Wear your tropical attire and go “loco” with an island-style party at Truck Yard Alliance, which starts Friday at 5 pm and runs all day Saturday. There’ll be hula dancers at 8 pm and fire dancers at 9 pm both nights, and a pig roast on Saturday. Pick your own coconut and fill it with themed cocktails like the frozen coconut Key lime pie, skinny painkiller, and the coconut water. Kids and dogs are welcome.
