IKEA to open new-format store in Southlake, the first in Dallas-Fort Worth
A new smaller format IKEA store is coming to Southlake. According to a release, the Swedish furniture & appliances store is opening a store that will be smaller, where customers purchase online and pick up at the store later.
The store will be located in the Park Village shopping center at 1041 E. Southlake Blvd, #100 & 110, and is scheduled to open in late 2023.
Confusingly called a Plan & order point with Pick-up, it's a spinoff of IKEA's Plan & order point store which offers advice on home furnishing and interior design - but with the addition of an IKEA Pick-up point.
Quick punctuation tangent: What is up with the capitalizing of only random words? Should it not be Plan & Order Point With Pick-up? And Pick-up Point? So confusing.
Plan & Order points differ from a traditional store in that they offer one-on-one planning appointments, and are dedicated to kitchen, bedroom, and living room projects. These Plan and Order points have limited space, so you can't buy items and take home on the same day. Purchases are traditionally delivered to your home.
In the Plan & order point with Pick-up, customers still won’t take products home on shopping day. But orders can be delivered or scheduled to be picked up from the Pick-up location next door.
IKEA U.S. CEO Javier Quiñones says in a statement that they're excited to offer a new IKEA experience "with convenience and accessibility in mind."
"Whether you’re looking for inspiration, need help from an IKEA design specialist or simply want to pick up an online order, the IKEA Southlake Plan & order point with Pick-up meets our customers where they are and how they like to shop,” Quiñones says.
At 10,809 square feet, this store is also smaller than the chain's large-format stores, which range from 215,000 square feet to over 500,000 square feet feet.
There are currently two large-format IKEA stores in Dallas-Fort Worth: Frisco and Grand Prairie.
IKEA U.S. Market Area Manager Rob Parsons comes in with a fun Texas cliche:
“Everything is bigger in Texas, but it doesn’t have to be further," Parsons says. "While the Plan & order point with Pick-up is different from our traditional IKEA store, we are continuously exploring new ways to bring IKEA closer to our customers and hope it will better meet the needs of our local customers."
