Fort Worth Tex-Mex chain Pulido's to be revived by benevolent new owners
A hero has come to the rescue of a cherished Tex-Mex fixture in Fort Worth: Pulido's Mexican Restaurant, which has been serving Tex-Mex since 1966, was acquired by Westland Restaurant Group, who already own Fort Worth favorites JD's Hamburgers, Margie's Italian Gardens, and West Side Cafe.
Founded by Pedro and Dionicia Pulido, Pulido's is celebrated for its authentic Tex-Mex cuisine and family atmosphere. They grew the restaurant from serving Pedro's railyard coworkers to a Texas institution with locations in Fort Worth, Benbrook, Eastland, Cleburne, and Hurst,
Alas, after 57 years, they announced their closure on October 14, due to challenges brought on by the pandemic.
With this acquisition, Westland Restaurant Group is poised to revitalize Pulido's, with a promise to revive its authentic cuisine and warm, community-focused atmosphere.
According to a release, they hope to reopen in spring 2024.
Westland Restaurant Group managing partner Bourke Harvey, who is spearheading this venture says in a statement that it's a natural extension of Westland's core values.
"Celebrating and sustaining the rich culinary traditions of the Fort Worth area is at the heart of what we do, and Pulido's is a significant piece of that history," Harvey says. "Working closely with the Pulido family has been a privilege, and we have immense respect for the legacy they've built. We are committed to revitalizing Pulido's, ensuring its storied past melds seamlessly with a dynamic future."
Westland Restaurant Group operating partner Gigi Howell says, "We are excited to continue the legacy of Pulido's Mexican Restaurant. Our aim is to preserve its essence, blending tradition with contemporary elements, as we've successfully done with other local favorites."
Westland Restaurant Group's involvement with JD's Hamburgers, Margie's Italian Gardens, and West Side Cafe exemplifies their commitment to enriching Fort Worth's culinary landscape.
Whether revitalizing a building's historic charm or seamlessly transitioning a beloved café, each reflects their dedication to the community and local dining culture.
Looking ahead to Spring 2024, Westland Restaurant Group eagerly anticipates the moment when the doors of Pulido's Mexican Restaurant will reopen. This occasion will be a celebration of Pulido's enduring legacy, inviting patrons old and new to come together and savor the authentic flavors and welcoming atmosphere that have made Pulido's a beloved Fort Worth institution for many years.
