A Toast to Jessie's Girl
Rocker Rick Springfield to free-sample his celebrity rum in Fort Worth
Fans of "Jessie's Girl" will get a chance to rub elbows with rock singer Rick Springfield when he visits Fort Worth in late August to sign bottles of his celebrity rum brand.
Joining a growing field of rock stars and other celebrities dabbling in spirits, Springfield has partnered with fellow rock star Sammy Hagar to promote Sammy's Beach Bar Rum, a Puerto Rican-made rum Hagar originally founded in 2012. The line now includes a Platinum Rum, Red Head Rum, and Kola Nut Spiced Rum.
A release notes that Springfield and Hagar have been friends since 1981, when Hagar wrote the Springfield's top 10 hit song “I’ve Done Everything for You” from his breakout album, Working Class Dog.
Springfield will stop by Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods at 2750 S. Hulen St. on Monday, August 21 to give away samples and sign bottles. The exact time of his appearance is TBD; check with the store for details. (UPDATE - 8/2/23: Springfield's appearance will start at 2:30 pm, although it is recommended to show up earlier to get in line.)
For Springfield, it'll be a two-fer: He'll already be in town, headlining the “I Want My 80’s” concert tour with The Hooters, Tommy Tutone, and Paul Young, which stops at Dickies Arena on August 20.
If he really wanted to wow the crowd, he'd work as a bartender as Mark Wahlberg did in February when he came to town to hype his Fletch Azul Tequila.
But concertgoers at the Dickies show will be able to purchase cocktails featuring Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum as well as a special Jessie’s Girl cocktail made with Sammy’s Beach Bar Platinum Rum, pineapple juice, sweet & sour mix, and triple sec.
