Si Tapas, the acclaimed tapas concept, has opened in Fort Worth's Crockett Row, in the former Fireside Pies space at 2949 Crockett St. Si Tapas is from Ildefonso Jimenez, a tapas pioneer who opened his first location in Uptown Dallas in 2009. Jimenez had previously operated Cafe Madrid, Dallas' original tapas restaurant with his ex-wife Donica. Si Tapas' menu includes cheeses, olives, garlic shrimp, patatas bravas, calamari, Spanish potato omelet, serrano ham croquettes, whipped garbanzos & spinach with toasted bread, marinated red bell peppers, and more. They're also known for their big and affordable wine list, with bottles ranging from $30 to $200.
Kura Revolving Sushi has opened a location in Euless at Glade Parks. Originating from Japan, now In North America, Kura is a chain whose sushi makes its way around the restaurant on a conveyor belt. They have sashimi (fish with no rice), sushi with fish on rice, sushi rolls, hot rolls with crunchy fried fish, norimaki (simple rolls with one ingredient filling), crispy rice topped with fish, hand rolls, tempura, teriyaki, ramen, and udon noodle soup. This is their fourth location in Dallas/Forth Worth, following Plano and Carrollton which opened in 2016, and Frisco in 2018. they have a total of 11 in Texas. They also have plans to open in Forth Worth in Spring 2025.
Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard has opened a location in South Arlington, at 6275 S. Cooper St. The chain was founded in May 1984 by former Philadelphia firefighter Bob Tumolo and specializes in Italian ice and frozen custard, and any combinations thereof. Their most popular Italian Ice flavors are mango, Cherry Italian, and Swedish Fish. They have two other locations in DFW: downtown Arlington and Bedford.
Jars, the dessert concept by celebrity chef Fabio Viviani, has seasonal Easter desserts including: Pistachio Ambrosia with pineapple pistachio custard, pineapple, sponge cake, vanilla pastry cream, pistachios; Blackberry Pie with pie crust, blackberry compote, vanilla custard, blackberries, vanilla pastry cream; Rice Crispy Treat with vanilla custard, sponge cake, rice crispies, strawberry pastry cream; Peach Cobbler with peach compote, pie crust, vanilla custard, pastry cream, chopped peaches; Easter Peep with lemon custard, sponge cake, marshmallow peep topping.
Heim Barbecue & Catering founders Travis & Emma Heim are stepping away from the restaurants, leaving day-to-day operations to Will Churchill, owner of Fort Brewery and Pizza in the Foundry District. Heim has four locations: Burleson, the River District, West Magnolia, and Dallas near Love Field.
Flips Patio Grill is turning up the heat with its sizzling March Burger of the Month – the Jalapeño Popper Burger made from a 50/50 patty with bacon, jalapeño popper mix, raspberry chipotle sauce, and onion string on a brioche bun. Available at both locations in Grapevine and Fort Worth.
Sprinkles, the cupcake and cookie bakery chain, has teamed up with Mattel to release a Barbie Pink Velvet flavor in honor of Barbie’s 65th anniversary. The flavor is available as a $6 cupcake with a white chocolate ganache core and pink cream cheese frosting, or in The Barbie Dozen, a box of three Barbie pink velvet cupcakes with three sprinkles, three strawberries, and three red velvets.
La Madeleine, the French bakery and cafe chain, has brought back springtime desserts, including a lemon poppyseed muffin for $2.99, lemon white chocolate chunk cookie for $2.99, blueberry and lemon Danish for $3.99, blueberry and lemon cheesecake (for one) for $4.29, and carrot cake for $5.99 per slice. Available March 20-July 31.
Sweetgreen, the salad restaurant chain, has partnered with Austin-based Siete Foods to create a potato chip exclusively available at Sweetgreen. The Green Goddess Ranch Potato Chips with a hint of poblano combines a popular Sweetgreen salad dressing flavor profile with Siete’s kettle-cooked potato chips for $2.50 per bag.
Malai Kitchen, the Thai-Vietnamese restaurant, has collaborated with Bee and Brew Meadery in Fort Worth to add a new rotating beer brewed in-house: it’s the Honey Irish Red, a traditional, malt-rich Irish ale.
Gong Cha, the boba tea chain, introduced two new drinks: Cookies ‘n’ Creme Milk Tea, a black tera shaken with Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme flavor and topped with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and milk foam; and Cookies ‘n’ Creme Milk Slush, a black tea with milk and Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme plus a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Available through April 26.
Twisted Root Burger Co. is serving a new burger and shake: the $12 Quincy’s Patty Melt, made with a beef patty on Texas Toast with swiss, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce; and the $6 Reese’s Shake made with house custard, crushed Reese’s peanut butter cups and whipped cream, with the option of adding rum for $2.
Melting Pot, the fondue restaurant, has a five-course special featuring a green goddess bacon-stuffed tomato, fresh salad, cheese fondue with produce and bread, entrees cooked by the customer using a fondue pot or cast iron grill, and chocolate fondue for dessert.
St Pierre Bakery, the brioche bread company, is now available in H-E-B stores. Products include their burger buns, seeded burger buns, and hot dog rolls.
Cowboy Chicken, the rotisserie chicken chain, has introduced Nashville hot chicken, available as a $12.50 sandwich, $13 four-tender meal, or $12 six-wing meal. They also added Cowboy Slaw (shredded cabbage, creamy sauce, and jalapeño). Available through May 26.
Cinnaholic has several new spring treats, including a lemonberry crunch and rainbow sorbet roll; a Spring Break Baby Bun Box of pastel mini cinnamon rolls with rainbow sprinkles; lemonberry coffee cake, a Saint Patrick’s Day-themed baby bun box with 12 baby buns topped with green frosting, marshmallows, and rainbow sprinkles.
Dairy Queen restaurants around Texas are offering chocolate or vanilla Easter cakes made with DQ’s signature soft serve and available in 8-inch or 10-inch sizes. Customers can preorder up to 24 hours in advance of their desired pick up date.
Chipotle has reintroduced its chicken al pastor, made with adobo, morita peppers, and ground achiote with a splash of pineapple and lime plus cilantro. Available for a limited time.
Bud Light has brought back its limited-edition green bottles for Saint Patrick’s Day. Available at bars around DFW and in select retailers while supplies last.
