A pizzeria with a serious buzz is rolling into Fort Worth: Called Stoner’s Pizza Joint, it'll be located at 2401 W. 7th St. #115, in the former 7th Street Daiquiri Cafe, where it will open in early April.

Stoner's is a chain founded in Georgia in 2013, which began franchising in 2018. In 2020, Fort Lauderdale franchisee John Stetson bought the company and became CEO. They're a delivery and takeout quick-serve concept with pizzas, calzones, strombolis, wings, salads, and desserts.

The menu includes basics like pepperoni but also specialty options such as the steak pizza with onion, mushroom, and pepper on a white garlic sauce; and the taco pizza, with beef, jalapenos, and taco seasoning, served with a side of lettuce, tomato, sour cream and buffalo sauce.

Pizzas come in three sizes: 10-inch, 14-inch, and the Really Big 18-inch. Prices range from $10 to $27.

The name is a fun play on stoner culture and joints which manifests itself on the menu as well. Appetizers are called "munchies," and include pepperoni pizza rolls, cheese sticks, and garlic knots.

This will be the second location in the DFW area, following a location that opened in Rowlett in September 2024. Both locations are from franchisee Wakaas Abdrazak, who has spent the past 20 years in construction.

"We were looking to bring something new to the market that was different than other pizzerias," Abdrazak says. "What impressed me about the group in charge of it is they have a background of doing this business for 30-40 years and know everything from scratch."

With his background in construction, he's designed the DFW locations himself, to appeal to DFW's sophisticated taste. That meant toning down the chain's vivid color scheme and modernizing the ambience, with fewer signs in favor of white walls with a Stoner's Pizza Joint logo on one wall and a number 7 with wings on another wall by the stairs as a nod to West 7th Street.

There are plans for two more Stoner's Pizza locations soon including east Dallas at 2335 N. Fitzhugh Ave. #10, slated to open in May; and in McKinney, which is slated to open by early 2026.

"We keep some of the soul of the city in each location and keep elements of the area in the logo," Abdrazak says. "It's how we serve the community."

Popular chef team debuts fine new Turkish restaurant in Colleyville

There's a new restaurant in Colleyville serving kebabs from an acclaimed chef team: Called Truva Mediterranean Bar & Grill, it's now open at 1205 Church St., in a former Black Walnut Café, which closed in 2024 after eight years.

Truva is from Turkish chef Can Karatas, partnered with his uncle Cengiz Yumrutas, a longtime restaurateur who previously owned Ephesus Mediterranean Grill in Dallas.

The duo has a following in the DFW area thanks to Istanbul Cuisine, the concept they own with locations in Flower Mound and Southlake; and the revered Flying Carpet Turkish Cafe, a longtime Fort Worth staple they took over in 2024. Truva is like a fancy big sibling with steaks and a full bar.

Karatas is a native of Turkey who comes from a family of chefs including both of his parents as well as his brother. At Truva, his father sometimes helps in the kitchen, and the complementary shepherd’s bread that’s served at the restaurant is from a recipe of his mother's.

Karatas and Yumrutas are calling Truva the "largest Turkish Mediterranean restaurant in Texas." Size was important because they wanted a space where they could host events. The location fits the bill, as it encompasses two private dining rooms include one that seats 140 people. In the short time they've been open, they've already hosted four events.

“In Colleyville there are no restaurants this size, open 7 days a week, with enough free parking, and serving fresh and chef-designed plates," Karatas says.

Truva's menu features classic Turkish dishes including lamb kebabs, falafel platter, lamb shank with eggplant, gyros, and hummus. But there are also fine-dining style dishes such as whole branzino, filet mignon, ribeye, lamb chops, and char-grilled shrimp with rice and arugula salad, which boast Turkish flavors but would also be at home on any restaurant menu.

Appetizers range from $11 to $18, and entrees range from $30 to $50. At lunch, they feature a $16 menu with beef, lamb or kafta kebabs, gyros, and chicken or salmon crepes.

Who doesn't love baklava and Truva offers it in three varieties: walnut, pistachio, and chocolate. They also have a full bar with wine, beer, cocktails and mocktails.

Karatas says they're seeing new customers as well familiar faces from their other restaurants.

"After a while you become friends and family with the customers, and even customers know each other because they frequent often in our other locations," He says. "It has become a family."
