THE 411: Outfitted in their chicest Western boots, hats, and denim, 180 guests moseyed out of the big city and into the rustic-ranch gala benefiting New Hope Equine Assisted Therapy's vital programs.
Guests at the September 26 event were greeted by three of New Hope’s beloved equine friends - Chito, Rain, and Sierra - plus a “beer burro” handing out Shiner beers.
Before dinner, patrons browsed silent auction items, played a whiskey pull game, posed for pictures with Plush’s walking photo booth, and lined up for a Flea Style custom hat bar while acoustic duo David Gallegos and Kevin Schaelling of Azul Dual World Acoustic Guitars entertained. At the Hope Wall, guests could leave handwritten notes of encouragement for New Hope participants, volunteers, and staff.
Emcee Scott Murray then welcomed the crowd indoors, where hungry guests filled up on a Texas-style feast of Lucky Spur BBQ, Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktails, and desserts from Buttermilk Sky Pies. Honorary chairs Argyle mayor Ron Schmidt and Michelle Schmidt, and event chair Danielle White, underscored the important mission of the gala.
After a rousing game of Heads or Tails, auctioneer Mike Trent conducted a spiritFored live auction. The high bid of the night went to David Yarrow’s striking photograph Ain’t My First Rodeo, which sold for $30,000 (enough to cover the cost of caring for five New Hope horses for a year). In total, the auction raised $75,000.
Guests heard words of gratitude from New Hope founder and executive director Sharla Kershen and board president Neal Bondy, and Denise Bruzzone, the mother of a teen who has benefited from the organization's programs. Mary James Cooper was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Since 2012, New Hope has been healing through therapeutic horsemanship for people of all ages with physical, intellectual, or developmental special needs. The next Hope Gala will take place September 25, 2026.
