Fort Worth's Trinity Metro hatches novel new way to ride trains

Trinity Metro
Fort Worth transit agency Trinity Metro, serving Fort Worth and Tarrant County, has dreamed up a fun and creative way to enjoy its trains during summer 2025.
Called Storytime Trains, it's an engaging summer activity for families and kids, consisting of a round-trip ride on Trinity Metro TEXRail that becomes a "Read & Ride" with book-reading, guest speakers, and free books for kids.
The ride begins at Fort Worth T&P Station and goes to the Iron Horse Station in North Richland Hills, then circles back for what will total an approximately one-hour round-trip ride.
It's an activity that has all sorts of benefits:
- Encourages kids to read
- Enlightens kids about public transportation
- Enlightens adults about public transportation
- Uses public transportation in a creative way that is not merely about commuting or going to the airport
The new Storytime Trains offering will begin on Wednesday, July 2, and will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:30 am throughout July. They'll host a special trip in Spanish on Sunday, July 27.
Free parking is available at Fort Worth T&P Station, and the round-trip ride to North Richland Hills/Iron Horse Station will take approximately one hour.
The books distributed at the event will match the story read on the train. The same book will be used for each date.
They're bringing in some literary greats and transportation bigwigs as guest speakers including:
- Karen Molinar, superintendent of Fort Worth Independent School District
- Emily Messer, Texas Wesleyan University president
- Rachel Capua, Tarleton State University Fort Worth VP of external operations and dean
- Rich Andreski, Trinity Metro president and CEO
- Jeff Martinez, president, Mid-Tex Division, Atmos Energy
- Midori Clark, director of Fort Worth Public Library
- Ericka Garza, president and CEO of Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
- Stephanie Boardingham, mayor of Forest Hill
- Ben Robertson and Isaac Manning, Trinity Metro board members
If all of this is not enough, it's a completely cheap way to entertain the kids: Tickets are only $2 each way, and children 4 and under ride for free. As if that's not enough, passengers using the GoPass app will save 50% off single-ride tickets by using the Storytime Train promotional code.
