Magnolia at the Modern: La Piscine
In La Piscine, Jean-Paul (Alain Delon) and Marianne (Romy Schneider) indulge in their passion for each other while borrowing a friend's luxurious villa in the south of France. When the friend (Maurice Ronet) and his daughter (Jane Birkin) arrive unexpectedly, rivalries and insecurities surface and events take a sinister turn. There will be five screenings of a 4K restoration of the 1969 classic through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Robert Dubac's The Book of Moron
In The Book of Moron, Robert Dubac portrays an everyman who has lost sight of the bigger picture. He’s been bombarded by so much hype and spin that he can’t remember who he is or what he believes. Stuck in a coma of stupidity, he racks his brain searching for answers but finds nothing but voices. Inner voices that take him on a freight train of provocative thought to find the bigger picture and wake up from the dumbing down of modern-day life. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday at Downtown Cowtown at the Isis.
Summerland Tour featuring Everclear
For the first time, Everclear's annual Summerland Tour will come to Billy Bob's Texas. The rock band from Oregon is nearing the 30th anniversary of their 1993 debut album, World of Noise, although it was their follow-up in 1995, Sparkle and Fade, where they truly made it to the big time. They've put on the Summerland Tour almost every year since 2012, and this year's edition will feature performances by Hoobastank, Living Colour, and Wheatus.
Saturday, July 10
Panther Island Pavilion presents Rockin’ the River
Each week, Rockin' the River at Panther Island Pavilion features five different bands playing back-to-back sets. After the headlining band finishes, the water party moves to the shore with the fifth and final band playing on the after-party stage before a weekly fireworks display. Performers this week will include Giovannie & The Hired Guns, The Lowdown Drifters, Austin English, Dustin Massey, and Ross Cooper.
Nash Farm presents Ice Cream Social
Nash Farm in Grapevine will present a 1920s Ice Cream Social, a family-friendly event featuring old-fashioned, hand-cranked ice cream, ‘20s music, antique cars, lawn games, and more. Guests can relax in the great outdoors and soak up summer with sundaes, root beer floats, lemonade, and watermelon as the Lone Star String Band entertains with their traditional old-time music and Texas-style prairie music.
CONCACAF Gold Cup
The 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which has reached the Group Stage, will hold a variety of matches in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Group A teams Mexico, El Salvador, Curaçao, and Trinidad will play round-robin matches over the course of eight days, starting on Saturday with El Salvador vs. Curaçao at Toyota Stadium in Frisco and Mexico vs. Trinidad at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Other matches will take place on July 14 and 18, with Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas also hosting matches.
Bastards of Soul in concert
Bastards of Soul stormed onto the Dallas-Fort Worth scene in the spring of 2016. Propelled by a veteran crew of East Dallas players, and led by the raw soul power of charismatic frontman Chadwick Murray, Bastards of Soul will return to the city where they recorded their debut album, Spinnin’. They'll play at Ridglea Theater.
Sunday, July 11
Tarrant Regional Water District presents Sunday Funday
After delays due to weather and the Fourth of July, Sunday Funday will finally return to Panther Island Pavilion. The laidback family-friendly series features tubes and pedal boats available for rent along with kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes from Backwoods Paddlesports. Cold beer and loaner ice chests are also available. There will also be a morning yoga class, food trucks, and fun in and along the Trinity River.
