Since it's Christmas weekend, most of the big events will be ones we've already highlighted that are designed to get you in the holiday spirit. Below is a recap of the best ones to see again, or for the first time. Each of the following will have performances or be open all weekend, only one taking off Christmas Day.
Gaylord Texan presents ICE! featuring Christmas Around the World
The annual popular attraction at Grapevine's Gaylord Texan resort features colorful holiday sculptures hand-carved out of more than 2 million pounds of ice. The display this year shows how Christmas is celebrated around the world. There are also two-story-tall ice slides, a 12-lane snow tubing hill, an interactive ice carving station, and more. ICE! will be open through January 3.
Panther Island Ice
Take advantage of this rare opportunity at Coyote Drive-In, featuring Fort Worth's only outdoor skating rink, albeit one that's still under cover. You can skate every day through January 18.
Texas Ballet Theater presents The Nutcracker
Texas Ballet Theater normally splits this production between Dallas and Fort Worth, but this year Fort Worth has it all to itself. The holiday classic, in which Clara goes on magical journey with a nutcracker-turned-prince to The Land of Sweets, will run at Bass Performance Hall through December 27, excluding Christmas day.
Jubilee Theatre presents Do You Hear What I Hear!
The holiday production from Jubilee Theatre is not the traditional kind you'll find from most other theater companies. This one tells the story of one down-on-his-luck man who gets lifted up by simple acts of kindness. Playing through December 27, it features many recognizable holiday songs and the beloved style of Jubilee Theatre.
Texas Motor Speedway presents The Gift of Lights
Texas Motor Speedway will once again open its gates for this holiday lighting spectacular, featuring a two-mile drive through the speedway that includes over 200 lighted displays with more than 2 million LED lights. New this year is the 22,000-square-foot Santa's Village, where visitors can get a photo with Santa Claus, enjoy refreshments, and ride a miniature train. The event goes on through December 31.
