Barnes & Noble turns the page with new bookstore in north Fort Worth

New Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Presidio Junction in far north Fort Worth.
Barnes & Noble Booksellers opens a new chapter in Fort Worth with the debut of the first of two new stores this month. The bookstore will open at the Presidio Junction shopping center in far north Fort Worth on Wednesday, November 4.
The new store is at 2329 Porter Creek Dr., in the former Sun & Ski Sports space between Ross and TJ Maxx. Presidio Junction is located at I-35W and North Tarrant Parkway, across the freeway from Alliance Town Center.
The 12,000-square-foot location will sell a wide selection of books, toys, games, magazines, vinyl, DVDs, gift items and more, a release says.
Another Fort Worth store will open November 18 in Montgomery Plaza, west of downtown, the company says - just in time for holiday shopping.
Both Presidio Junction and Montgomery Plaza are owned by Dallas-based investment firm Younger Partners Investments.
“We are very pleased to open this beautiful new Barnes & Noble in Fort Worth, adding another bookstore to our extraordinarily successful presence in Texas,” Barnes & Noble CEO James Daunt says of the Presidio store in the release. “There is no better place than a bookstore for holiday shopping and our talented team of booksellers are delighted to have their new store ready in time.”
A grand opening at Presidio will kick off at 10 am November 4 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring local author Kayla Olson, who will sign copies of her book The Great Outdoors. The Cat in the Hat will also make an appearance, with special story times planned throughout the weekend.
Promotions on opening day will include $50 off NOOK devices and 40 percent off DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and 4K Ultra HD movies.
Some may be surprised to see the bookseller expanding after the 2010s “retail apocalypse” spurred by e-tailers like Amazon. The shift in consumer habits forced the closure of once ubiquitous chains nationwide, including dozens of Barnes & Noble locations.
But since being acquired by hedge fund Elliott Advisors in 2019, the company has seen a renaissance, opening 60 stores in 2025, including including one in Burleson. Barnes & Noble, the largest retail bookseller in the U.S., attributes its growth to its strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers.
That doesn't mean that Barnes & Noble has gone indie, but the stores now have localized inventory and displays. That allows store managers to quickly respond to social media trends like #BookTok and curate merchandise that aligns with community preferences.
Having fallen below 600 locations as recently as 2023, Barnes & Noble now has over 720 bookstores nationwide. They will open eight stores in Texas this year, they say.
"The new stores have been acclaimed for their design, showcasing the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain," says the release.
