Fort Worth suburb scores a spot on best small cities in America list
Dallas suburbs have been known to dominate Internet studies when it comes to best cities, but one Fort Worth suburb can now claim a victory, as Southlake has been named one of the best small cities in America by WalletHub.
Southlake came in at No. 6 on the list, which defined a small city as those that have between 25,000 and 100,000 residents. Out of nearly 1,300 cities, Southlake scored especially high in the categories of affordability (No. 3) and economic health (No. 18), making up for relatively low rankings in education and health (No. 204) and quality of life (No. 403).
WalletHub considered a multitude of factors when determining its rankings, including housing costs, unemployment rate, school-system quality, average commute time, the number and different types of businesses, and crime rate. Southlake ranked No. 1 in housing costs, leading to a No. 3 ranking in homeownership rates.
No other Texas city appears in top 40, with Southlake's neighbor Keller coming in next highest at No. 41. The top five cities on the list are Princeton, New Jersey; Littleton, Colorado; Dublin, Ohio; Brookfield, Wisconsin; and Leawood, Kansas.
