Weekend Event Planner
These are the 6 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
The beginning of a new year usually means a slight hangover in the events department. This somewhat slower weekend will feature the final days of two holiday events, screenings of an star-filled movie, a new art exhibit, concerts by a great '90s band and rising country band, and classical music on a small scale.
Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. Want more options? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, January 4
Last call for holiday events
The holiday season may officially be over, but you still have a few more days to check out a couple of its fun events. The weather is perfect for some ice skating at Panther Island Ice, which will be open at Coyote Drive-In through January 15. If you're more into lights, Magical Winter Lights at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie will be open through Sunday, offering a last chance to see some spectacular holiday lights.

Magnolia at the Modern presents Wonder Wheel
Woody Allen's Wonder Wheel tells the story of four characters whose lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s. They include Ginny (Kate Winslet), an emotionally volatile former actress; Humpty (Jim Belushi), Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey (Justin Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard; and Carolina (Juno Temple), Humpty’s long-estranged daughter. The film will screen seven times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Fort Works Art presents Laura Wilson and Byrd Williams IV
Fort Works Art will present a dual exhibition featuring two of Texas' most recognized and critically acclaimed photographers, Laura Wilson and Byrd Williams IV. The exhibition will showcase the complex and highly individual perspectives of each renowned artist while exploring the themes of contrast and juxtaposition through gripping pictorial essays. Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on view through February 3.
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents Boyz II Men
In the 1990s, there was no bigger R&B/hip hop group than the quartet of Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman, aka Boyz II Men. Their velvety vocals and seductive harmonies on songs like "Motownphilly," "End of the Road," and "On Bended Knee" made them a huge success. The now-trio of the Morris brothers and Stockman will join the Fort Worth Symphony for two nights of chart-topping hits at Bass Performance Hall.
Josh Abbott Band in concert
Josh Abbott Band are no strangers to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, having played here multiple times a year since they started getting big in 2010. The Lubbock-based band has made an impact on the Billboard Country album charts with their Red Dirt sound, including 2017's Until My Voice Goes Out. They'll play at Billy Bob's Texas on both Friday and Saturday night.
Saturday, January 6
Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth presents From Vienna to Brotherhood
While the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra goes pop for a weekend, you can still get a classical music fix thanks to the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth. This concert, taking place at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, will feature violinist Gary Levinson, pianist Baya Kakouberi, violist Roberto Díaz, and cellist Andrés Díaz playing selections from Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms.
