Handful of movie theaters in Dallas-Fort Worth to reopen on August 14
The Studio Movie Grill theater chain continues its incremental reopening of theaters with two new locations coming on board: On Friday, August 14, the chain will reopen locations at Arlington Lincoln Square and in Plano, at 4721 W. Park Blvd.
These join the The Colony location, which opened on June 19, and the Royal Lane location in Dallas, which reopened on June 26.
SMG founder/CEO Brian Schultz says in a statement that the chain is welcoming back guests "safely," with a variety of films that includes classics plus new releases from smaller distributors. The only real major release is Warner Bros' Tenet, which is theoretically coming out on September 3, whether that happens remains to be seen.
SMG is reopening with perks that include free tickets for SMG Access members on select films when they log in and book through the SMG App; and points on food and drinks. Access membership is free. The SMG App is available for download at Apple’s App Store or on Google Play. Once logged in, any Access member can use the offer up to once daily through August 23.
SMG was one of the first to offer the option to book a private auditorium for $200. The chain says it has been immensely popular for birthday parties, movie events, surprise parties, and other socially distanced get-togethers. Unlike other exhibitors, there are no additional charges for tickets or required minimums for food and beverage.
Advanced tickets are now on sale for Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe, opening August 21, and The New Mutants from Disney, opening August 28. In anticipation of the Tenet release, SMG will show director Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Inception, starting August 21, which will include an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Tenet.

In addition to cleaning and sanitization protocols, locations will operate at 50 percent capacity and have social distancing built into the reservation system. Full details can be found at studiomoviegrill.com/story/reopen.
Cinemark
August 14 is also the new reopening date for three Dallas-Fort Worth Cinemark theaters:
- Cinemark Alliance Town Center and XD in Fort Worth
- North East Mall 18 and XD in Hurst
- Cinemark 14 Rockwall and XD
These theaters were originally scheduled to reopen on July 3, but a spokesperson says that the reopening date got pushed back, and now it has arrived.
