Combining fitness with beautiful outdoor surroundings, Abundio’s Fit Society is now open in the River District after a year of construction.

Owned by fitness professional Abundio Munoz, who’s been working with clients in Fort Worth since 1991 in various facilities, the open-air gym offers a variety of group fitness classes along with personal training, nutrition consulting, self-defense classes, and even space for private events.

“Open space was a priority,” says Munoz, who has a background in martial arts and has built a loyal following for his cardio kickboxing classes. “There’s glass on both sides so people don’t feel trapped in a building. I think people enjoy seeing outside a lot more than a blank wall with a bunch of weights.”

The 4,000-square-foot structure resembles a spacious yet chic garage, with industrial design elements and loads of natural light. Equipment ranges from TRX straps and stair climbers to punching bags and free weights. The lengthy outdoor deck can serve as an open space for classes and training, and the grassy lawn adjacent to the Trinity River is available for everything from running sprints and pushing sleds to — down the road — wine tastings and live music.

For those looking for something less intense, yoga classes called “Flow” are on the schedule along with “Flex & Flow” classes that incorporate light strength training.

“I wanted to cater more to women,” Munoz says. “I didn’t want to women to feel like they’re going to a nasty gym and it’s all about lifting weights.”

Munoz says he’d like class sizes to remain small so that participants get more of an exclusive experience. For folks just beginning a workout routine, he recommends starting with group classes.

“I think most people get stagnant doing the same thing over and over,” Munoz says. “If you get bored with something, move on to the next class or try some personal training.”

Through November 4, guests can try group classes free (limit two per guest). There are also specials on class series packages, and each new client can try a personal training session free through November 30.

Abundio's Fit Society is at 4661 White Settlement Road in Fort Worth.
