Fort Worth homeowners face a looming deadline for property taxes

Oh you'll need a little more than that.
That day of reckoning is coming for Fort Worth homeowners: The last day to pay 2024 property taxes to avoid penalty and interest is Friday, January 31, 2025.
To make that process easier, all eight of the Tarrant County Tax Office locations are open Monday-Friday from 8 am-4:30 pm, to process those property tax payments.
"We encourage taxpayers to pay online whenever possible to avoid the crowds," says Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Rick D. Barnes in a release. "Online systems become heavily used in the last hour of the day. We suggest taxpayers start the online process earlier in the month to avoid complications and not waiting until January 31st if at all possible."
Property taxes can be paid online at taxonline.tarrantcounty.com/TaxPayer/search.
How to pay
- Credit cards. They take Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover for online payments, by phone, or in person at all branch locations, but a convenience fee is added to debit and credit card payments.
- Checks. Online eCheck payments can be made with no additional convenience fee online or by phone.
- Pay-by-phone is available 24/7 at 817-884-1110.
Deadlines
Payments made by mail are posted according to the USPS postmark date and must be by January 31, 2025, to avoid penalty and interest. The Property Tax Code does not authorize the Tax Assessor-Collector to waive penalty and interest.
Online and phone payments must be completed by 11:59 pm on January 31, 2025. Incomplete and pending payments completed after midnight will be posted accordingly.
Customer service
The Tarrant County Tax Office Customer Service Center is available at 817-884-1100 to assist citizens with property tax and motor vehicle questions. Phone lines are open Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm
Barnes says that the Tarrant County Tax Office encourages citizens who cannot pay in full to make partial payments. Partial payments will be applied and only the remaining balance will be subject to penalties rather than the full original amount due.
An alternative method of contact for taxpayers is email to taxoffice@tarrantcountytx.gov. Allow a 48-hour response time for emails.
