Cool Mexican-BBQ restaurant to open at chill Mansfield outdoor complex
A new restaurant opening in Mansfield combines Texas' two most popular cuisines: Called Del Toro BBQ, it's a novel new concept from the Local Favorite Restaurants group (El Fenix, Meso Maya) which combines Mexican and BBQ food in one convenient location.
Del Toro is the brainchild of Local Favorite's executive chef Nico Sanchez, who was born and raised in Guanajuato, and is embracing his Texan roots.
The restaurant is located at 109 S. Main St. #200, at the Backyard, the outdoor complex in historic downtown Mansfield which is also home to a Twisted Root and By the Horns Brewing. It's taking over the old Tacos & Avocados spot, which succumbed to the pandemic in 2020.
According to a release, Del Toro will open on February 15.
"I envisioned a restaurant where I could take two styles, Mexican and Texan cuisine, and create a craft que with a unique Mexican flair — 'Mex-Que'," Sanchez says in a statement. "I am very honored and thrilled to bring my vision to life in Mansfield and to gather the community together through authentic Texas BBQ made with the freshest local ingredients."
Menu items will include beef spareribs, jalapeno cheddar sausage, burnt ends, pulled pork, pimento cheese & brisket tostadas, and street corn elote — traditional barbecue infused with a Mexican twist.
In addition to El Fenix, Snuffer's, Meso Maya, Taqueria La Ventana, and Tulum, Local Favorite has also acquired Village Burger Bar, Jalisco Norte, and Twisted Root. They also own Sunrise Mexican Foods, which makes chips, tortillas, flautas, and tamales for retail and foodservice operators.
