A Fort Worth favorite diner is relocating: Vickery Cafe, known for its wholesome breakfast and lunch, is leaving its longtime address at 4120 W. Vickery Blvd. in the fall.

According to chef-owner Curtis James, he's having to move because his lease at his current location is not being extended. He'll be moving in the next month and a half and hopes to reopen by November.

“The landlord just wants to do short-term leasing, so we’re moving in the next couple months to the West 7th area," James says.

James got his start in the fine-dining world before taking over Vickery Cafe. He's been featured on Good Morning Texas and won best-of awards from Fort Worth Weekly. He puts a gourmet twist on traditional favorites and does a playful take on desserts for breakfast.

He's owned the cafe since 2012, but it's been there for 50 years although originally under a different name. It's known for its Southern and Tex-Mex fare, such as chicken & waffles, huevos rancheros, and Texan ranch hand breakfast. The breakfast is so good that lines are out the door on weekends.

In 2016, James spun off a sibling concept called Texan Diner in Haslet, featuring Vickery Cafe’s breakfast and lunch menu, but also open for dinner with options like steak and salmon.

He'll do some menu expansion at the new location, including adding more brunch dishes, plus alcohol including beer and wine. He'll also add some more inclusive dining options for those who aren’t too keen on meat or breads.

“We're gonna change the menu a little bit,” James says. “It's going to be a little more vegan friendly and gluten-free, those kind of things.”
