This Week in Gluttony
These are the 5 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week
It’s the home stretch of the holiday season with Christmas just over a week away, but this week’s events can help combat the chaos with fine food and drink. Start with a food hall crawl that benefits a good cause. Then indulge in traditional Christmas dishes from two different countries — Italy and Germany. End the week by sipping one of several fresh fruit sangrias from a local restaurant celebrating National Sangria Day.

Hall Crawl at the Food Hall at Crockett Row
For a $25 ticket, guests can peruse the popular food hall to taste an array of bites from all on-site restaurants, including Butler’s Cabinet, Hooker’s Grill, Monkey King Noodle Co, Not Just Q, Press Waffle Co., Shwarma Bar, Val’s Cheesecakes and more. The ticket also includes one craft cocktail. There’ll also be live music and a visit from Santa. Proceeds will benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank, and the event will run from 6 to 9 pm.
Feast of the Seven Fishes at Grace
Chef Blaine Staniford will present his take on the traditional Italian Christmas Eve meal, which is also known as The Vigil. The seven-course dinner starts with swordfish ham followed by frito misto, little neck clam toast, black cod, Maine lobster fra diavola pasta, ocean trout, and mascarpone cannoli. All courses will be paired with wines. The $145 per-person price does not include tax and gratuity. A welcome reception with bubbles begins at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner at 7 pm.

A German Christmas at Ellerbe Fine Foods
It’s the final dinner in the restaurant’s 2019 “Around the World” series and this one features traditional German holiday dishes. Start with a limburger cheese salad with caraway vinaigrette before indulging in a main course of German-style braised pot roast with potato dumplings and red cabbage. Dessert will encompass an array of German baked goods, including fruit cake, hazelnut macaroons, cinnamon star cookies, and ginger cookies. The $45 price per person does not include tax, gratuity, or alcohol. There will be a wine flight available, as well as a signature cocktail. Reservations run from 5:30 to 9 pm.

Hall and Walt Wines at Off the Vine
This Grapevine wine bar hosts tastings every week (Sundays always feature bubbles), but this one is notable for the two well-known Napa and Sonoma labels from well-known DFW power couple Craig and Kathryn Hall. Sip a flight of six different Hall and Walt wines paired with light charcuterie for $50 per person. Note that reservations are required and the guided tasting begins at 7 pm.

National Sangria Day at Bartaco
Celebrate the fresh fruit-infused wine beverage with three different varieties at the WestBend restaurant. The light Acoustic offers pineapple, green apple, and mango; the Hey Miss Dragonfly is more floral and potent with elderflower liqueur and tequila; and the Mix-and-a-Mingle incorporates holiday flavors with winter spices, ginger, and agave. Bartaco also features a “secret cocktail” monthly — currently a piquant margarita called Blood, Sweat & Cheers made with blood oranges, fresh jalapeños, and smoked pepper agave available now through January 14.
