These are the 6 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week
While Easter dining will dominate many restaurants this weekend, there are other tasty happenings this week – all of which involving learning in some capacity. Classes include pasta-making, seafood grilling, and yoga paired with whiskey. There are also three museum happy hours that give patrons a chance to sip cocktails while studying art.
Thursday, April 6
Pasta Making Class at il Modo
The first Thursday of the month is pasta-making day at il Modo. The Italian restaurant on the ground floor of The Kimpton Harper hotel downtown hosts hands-on pasta-making classes once a month in their dedicated pasta-making room. Light bites will be provided to enjoy with pasta sampling. The hour-and-a-half class is $70 and starts at 7 pm.
Friday, April 7
First Friday at the Modern
Enjoy the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth after dark. Visit the museum’s Grand Lobby from 5-8 pm for live music, light bites from Café Modern executive chef Jett Mora, and cocktails, beer, and wine from a cash bar. Admission is free, and there’s also a complimentary docent-led, 20-minute tour available at 6:30 pm. Note that Café Modern is also open for dinner on Fridays, and reservations are recommended.
Kimbell Happy Hour
It’s time for the Kimbell Art Museum’s Friday happy hour, which means the renowned museum opens up after hours for cocktails, bites, and live music. The Allegro Guitar Society will provide tunes while guests can enjoy beverages and bites available for purchase. (Members receive at 10 percent discount.) Admission is free and the event will run from 5-7 pm.
Saturday, April 8
SeafoodU at Rahr & Sons Brewing Co.
The experts behind Backyard Pitmasters BBQ Classes have added a new curriculum: seafood. Participants will learn the art of hot and cold smoking, grilling whole fish, and hanging red snapper on the multilevel, open-face Kudu grill. Even more, learn how to properly shuck and chargrill oysters and how to extract succulent meat from lobster. The class is $149 and will run from 10 am-1 pm at Rahr & Sons Brewing Co.
Yoga at Whiskey Ranch
Every second Saturday of the month, the picturesque TX Whiskey distillery hosts outdoor yoga overlooking the Fort Worth skyline (weather permitting, or the class moves inside.) The $15 ticket includes the one-hour class and one TX Whiskey cocktail to enjoy post-savasana. Class begins at 11 am.
Art+Wine at the Arlington Museum of Art
The museum that's getting big buzz for its forthcoming Taylor Swift exhibition is hosting its monthly painting parties for adults. Arlington artist Jennifer Randall will be the instructor. Choose from two different session times, 3-5 pm or 6-8 pm. Tickets ($45) include painting supplies, complimentary wine and charcuterie, and admission to the current exhibition "Uncrated." Guests may also BYOB drinks and snacks.
