Tex-Mex tops 5 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week

A trio of Fort Worth Tex-Mex chefs will share their secrets during a dine-and-demo cooking class this week (including how to master those tricky puffy taco shells). Also this week: an unique Oktoberfest tap takeover at a Thai concept, a new tequila flight night, a Texas wine pairing dinner, and an anniversary party with 5-cent old fashioneds.

Oktoberfest Tap Takeover at Malai Kitchen
German-trained head brewmaster Justin Meyer of the Dallas-based Thai and Vietnamese concept has spent the last two years brewing Oktoberfest-inspired beers, and they’re now available at all Malai locations (Fort Worth, Southlake, Dallas). The lineup includes four traditional Bavarian styles: Marzen lager, Helles lager, hefeweizen, and doppelbock. Each brew is intended to pair with a particular Malai dish, from yellow curry to pad Thai. Available through Friday.

Tequila Thursdays at West + Stone
The Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown hotel’s signature restaurant will kick off Tequila Thursdays this week. Guests can partake in $12 margarita flights featuring four mini margaritas with flavors including classic lime, blood orange, hibiscus, pineapple, and strawberry. All tequila cocktails are also $2 off for the evening, and sharable dining specials include pulled pork torta sliders, blackened shrimp tacos, chicken tinga nachos (with brisket or cheese-only options), and desserts like Bavarian cream churros and caramel flan. Tequila Thursdays will run from 5–11 pm.

The Spirit of Texas: A William Chris Wine Dinner at The Blue Room
Chris Brundrett, co-founder and owner of William Chris Vineyards in Hye, Texas, will guide guests through this five-course pairing dinner in collaboration with The Blue Room exec-chef Preston Paine. Dishes will include mussels escabeche with grilled sourdough and confit garlic aioli, seared duck breast with polenta, roasted mushrooms, and pumpkinseed gremolata, and a double chocolate cake with espresso buttercream and whipped mill-king cream. Guests will also be among the first to experience The Crescent Hotel’s exclusive private label red wine created in collaboration with William Chris Vineyards. The dinner is $175 plus gratuity, and begins at 7:30 pm.

Nickel City Fort Worth’s 5th Anniversary Party
South Main Street watering hole will host a birthday party with 5-cent old fashioneds (one per person) all day from 12–7 pm. There’ll also be a Lao barbecue pop-up by Dually’s starting at 2 pm, and flash tattoos from 1–5 pm. Get a Nickel City tattoo and score 5-cent Jim Beam or free Coors for life.
Cowtown Comfort Cooking: Tex Mex at Central Market Cooking School
Three noted Fort Worth Tex-Mex institutions will collaborate for a dine-and-demo cooking class at Central Market Cooking School. Johnny Cisneros of Los Vaqueros, Christian Lerhmann of Tinie's, and Levi Gardner of Pulido's Kitchen & Cantina will each demonstrate how to make one of their dishes included in Cowtown Comfort: Fort Worth Recipes, Places & Food Traditions by Celestina Blok, who’ll be on-site for a book signing. The menu includes Don Juan Coco Von chicken, pozole, puffy tacos, and Texas sheet cake. (Guests sit back and watch while being served each course.) Wine is included in the $90 ticket price, and the class will run from 5–7 pm.
