H-E-B acquires site for future store in buzzy southwest Fort Worth

H-E-B is plotting a new store.
Texas supermarket giant H-E-B is plotting a new store in southwest Fort Worth. According to a release, the grocery chain has purchased land at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard for a store it will open in 2028.
The store will be situated on a 20-plus-acre property in the 250-acre Overland master planned development, a part of the Edwards Ranch community from Cassco. Construction will start in early 2027.
Plans are still being developed for the store, but the release promises that "inside and out, the new store will reflect the unique character of the surrounding community, with additional details to be shared as the project develops."
H‑E‑B Shareholder Relations president Stephen Butt says in a statement that the store will fulfill a frequent request.
"For years, customers have asked us when a new H‑E‑B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon," Butt says.

Edwards Ranch is the 7,000-acre spread and largest family-owned holding in the metro's southwest corridor, owned and managed by descendants of founder Lemuel J. Edwards. They've managed the property through Cassco, their development arm, since 1956, on neighborhoods and mixed-use projects such as Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park, and Tanglewood.
Adding a grocery store at that intersection has been on the drawing board since 2024. There has been a Walmart SuperCenter east of the intersection at 6300 Oakmont Blvd. since 2004.
“We are honored to partner with H-E-B, a beloved Texas institution whose deep connection to its customers and neighborhoods closely reflects our own values of thoughtful development and investment in the Fort Worth community,” says Cassco president Crawford Edwards. “H-E-B has earned the trust and loyalty of generations of Texans, and we look forward to the meaningful role they will play in the Overland community for years to come.”
Based in San Antonio, H-E-B currently operates 460 stores in Texas and Mexico. Recent openings around DFW include Irving, which opened in June, plus three Tarrant County stores: Euless, which opened in May; Mansfield, which opened in June 2024; and Alliance, which opened in April 2024. H-E-B also operates Central Market locations in Fort Worth and Southlake.
