BBQ down
Heim BBQ on Magnolia will shut down its smokers for good this weekend

Heim will serve its final brisket and burnt ends on Magnolia on Sunday, February 1.
One of Fort Worth's hottest barbecue restaurants is turning off the flames at its flagship location very soon: Heim Barbecue, a small chain that prides itself on traditional Texas-style barbecue, is closing its outpost on Magnolia Avenue in the Near Southside on Sunday, February 1.
In a Facebook post January 30, they confirm, "Our Heim Magnolia location will be closing its doors this Sunday, February 1. We’d love to see you over the next few days so come grab your favorites, share a few laughs, and say hello one more time."
According to The Fort Worth Report, which broke the news, Heim will immediately shift its focus to two other locations and the launch of a food truck called Heim Pig Stand. Heim co-owner Will Churchill cited rising costs as a factor in the decision to close Magnolia, and said they aim to open several smaller brick-and-mortar shops.
Owners Travis and Emma Heim started Heim Barbecue as a Fort Worth food truck in 2014, and it became a barbecue hotspot with its brisket and bacon burnt ends. They opened their first brick-and-mortar location, their flagship, at 1109 W. Magnolia Ave. (in the former Mijo's Fusion restaurant), in 2016.
They opened it with a Facebook post that sounded as excited as Fort Worth was to see the popular barbecue truck become a brick-and-mortar:
"For those of you who have stared longingly through our windows the last few weeks/months we have some good news... our official grand opening will be Saturday, August 6th at 11 am!!!! Say a prayer, think a good thought, send positive vibes our way, because ready or not we're scrambling to have hot BBQ ready for your face 8/6/16! Delicious BBQ while it lasts, craft beer, cocktails, and fine whiskey all day every day (except Tuesdays). We cannot wait to have everybody over to our new place! Hope to see you soon!!!!"
The Heims turned over operations of the restaurants in February 2024 to Churchill and his family, so they could focus on their family.
They have just one other location up and running Fort Worth, in the River District, which opened in 2019.
There's another Heim in Dallas on Mockingbird Lane, which opened in 2020. (According to the Fort Worth Report's reporting, the Dallas location will be transferred to a longtime employee-turned-franchisee.)
A location in Burleson opened in 2023, but then closed a year later to make way for a location in Weatherford, which opened in 2025 and is still in operation.
The Magnolia Avenue location will be open 11 am-10 pm Friday and Saturday, and 11 am-9 pm Sunday, for final helpings of bacon burnt ends and bodacious burgers.
"We’re incredibly grateful to Fort Worth, the Magnolia community, and our amazing team for all the memories made here," says the January 30 post. "Thank you for being part of this chapter."
