Meaty new restaurant in Euless specializes in rare spicy Nigerian dish

Osuma Suya
A restaurant featuring Nigerian food is now open in Euless: Called Osuma Suya, it’s at 918 E. Harwood Rd. #B in Bear Creek Plaza, a small restaurant-centric center just west of 360, where it opened in April.
The restaurant is named for founder-owner Uchenna Osuma Onwualu, who started the restaurant in 2010 in Miami with business partner Max Paul. They opened their first location in Texas in McKinney in 2024; there’s also a location in Houston.
“My father told me that the best thing to do when starting this business was to honor my grandfather with that name,” Onwualu says. “We started in 2008; back then we used to appear at clubs, weddings, and hosted a few events, and the name took off from there.”
They specialize in suya, a Nigerian street food consisting of skewered and grilled meat, typically beef, that's been marinated in a spicy seasoning blend. Called "yaji," the blend contains ginger, cayenne pepper, garlic, onion, and ground peanuts, resulting in a flavor that is spicy and nutty, with smoky undertones. There are few African restaurants in DFW, and even fewer with a focus on suya.
Osuma offers the suya treatment on beef, lamb, goat, and chicken wings, as well as a suya burger, a suya taco, and the traditional presentation of suya with sliced onion and tomato. A pan of suya starts at $25.
Other dishes include beef shwarma and a catfish dish called point & grill BBQ fish, featuring a whole fish cooked directly on the grill then seasoned with BBQ sauce. There's also kilishi, a beef jerky coated in African spices, which they serve in grab-and-go bags.
Everything at the Euless location is take-out.
Onwualu is ambitious: In a TikTok video, he shares the restaurant's humble beginnings leading up to its expansion, which includes a location in the works in north Austin in the Tech Ridge area.
“This has been a journey that we’ve taken three years ago that we started in Dallas,” he says. “We’re happy to say this is finally it and that we’ve finally opened a south location in Euless.”
