This week in gluttony
These are the 5 best food and drink events in Fort Worth this week
School is back in session for most students this week, but on the food event scene, summer is still in full swing. There's a summer whiskey tasting, summer Sunday supper, and a summertime afternoon tea, Texas-style (meaning the tea will be iced). Plan for a free wine tasting on Friday to kick off the weekend.
Wednesday, August 21
Summer Sipping Series at Ellerbe Fine Foods
The last of Ellerbe Fine Foods’ summer tasting series – which coincided with the farm-to-table restaurant’s 15
th anniversary – will feature whiskey. Guests will enjoy a guided whiskey tasting highlighting regional variations and learn how to craft whiskey cocktails with recipes to take home. The event is $50 and begins at 6 pm.
Friday, August 23
Free Wine Tasting at Roy Pope Grocery
Roy Pope Grocery recently
rebooted with new ownership, and Friday means it’s time for their new complimentary wine tasting, which features a new varietal and vineyard each week. Visit anytime from 5–7 pm.
Saturday, August 24
Wine Dinner at Los Vaqueros West
The new Willow Park outlet of the Fort Worth Tex-Mex institution (whose original Stockyards location is currently
on the move), will host its first wine dinner featuring four courses by new chef Manny Vasquez. Wine pairings will be from historic Spanish vineyard Herederos Del Marques de Riscal. Standout menu items include garlic shrimp over jalapeno Monterrey Jack grits with a sherry butter sauce, braised short rib with whipped Yukon potatoes, and triple chocolate mousse. Dinner is $75 plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 6 pm.
Sunday, August 25
Texas Afternoon Tea at The Londoner Colleyville
The longtime British-inspired bar and restaurant will host a Sunday afternoon tea service, Texas-style. The menu includes cheese and charcuterie, scone with clotted cream, tea sandwiches, fruit parfait, macaron, Victoria sponge cake, sparkling wine, and – because it’s August in Texas – iced tea. Price is $38 plus tax and gratuity, and the tea service will run from 12–3 pm. A la carte menu options will be available.
Summer Sunday Supper at Rosen House Inn
Chef Victor Villarreal will visit the Near Southside bed and breakfast for a pop-up Sunday supper. Courses include champagne ricotta salad, red snapper with rose aguachile, smoked butter poached swordfish, and a surprise dessert by Dallas’ Nena Postreria. Drink pairings are included, while they last. Dinner is $120, plus gratuity, and begins at 6 pm.
