Magnolia at the Modern: Toni Erdmann
In Toni Erdmann, the latest in the Magnolia at the Modern series, a reluctant career woman must spend time with her estranged father when he comes for a surprise visit. Even though the film is nearly three hours long and is in German with English subtitles, it's worth checking out for two reasons: It's nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category, and it contains one of the funniest nude scenes you'll ever see. The film screens six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Kimbell Art Museum presents Rembrandt, the Jews and "That Portrait"
Looking at and appreciating art is one thing, but truly understanding it is another. The Kimbell Art Museum delves into one famous piece on its walls with this special free lecture by Larry Silver, Farquhar Professor of History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. This talk examines the important Rembrandt portrait in the Kimbell, identified as a young Jew, in the context of where the artist lived at the time it was painted and how he thought about the world.
Artisan Center Theater presents My Fair Lady
This timeless story takes us back to a simpler time, when musicals were magical and make believe. And at its heart is a cockney flower girl, transformed into a “genteel lady,” and the man who falls in love with her. The magnificent Lerner & Loewe collaboration, playing at Artisan Theater Center in Hurst through March 11, includes such songs as "I Could Have Danced All Night," "The Rain in Spain," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," and "The Street Where You Live."
